Lee Trevino DEFENDS The Open | 1972

In the run up to the 1972 Open Championship, Jack Nicklaus was the heavy favourite to claim the Claret Jug. Having already captured the first two majors of the year, the Golden Bear returned to Muirfield where he won his first Open Championship in 1966.
Nickalus did not have it all his own way and found himself six strokes back after three round. At six under par, Lee Trevino held a slender 54-hole lead over England’s Tony Jacklin with Nicklaus lurking at level par.
Trevino held off the competition in a remarkable final round that included a miraculous recovery from off the green at the 17th, one of four occasions in which he holed out from the back of the green.
The American became the first man to successfully defend The Open Championship since Arnold Palmer in 1962.

Trevino might not have the most pretty swing, but my god does he have an incredible ball flight.
