man that moment of hesitation lee has when the interviewer calls it a cello is one of the most universal struggles of an UPRIGHT BASS player

Listen closely, Lee stated that he started out playing a cello. This is what the interviewer was referring to.

You guys are so sexy! I saw you at the tower theater in Philadelphia when I was a 15-year-old kid. That was like 41 years ago. I still think you’re the most amazing group and you’re still my favorite.❤❤

I always thought Brian Setzer was the leader of the Stray Cats. Legends, do they all let Rockabilly bands into the R&R Hall of Fame?

This is kind of sad. Like an open mic cover of stray cats. And still the guitar carries. Smh....

Get an Eletric Bass, the only reason they were using them in the mid 50s was because they were affordable for bands starting up, by 57 most of the stand up bass players that had made it in bands were using electric bass guitars. Ok I get that it looks authentic, but so would using a ribbon mic and mid 50s amps

You just dont get it. It sounds authentic too, and it fits the music. It wouldn't sound as good with an electric bass

Agree with the 2 comments above. Also, the technique of playing an upright bass called "slap bass" is frequently used in 50's Jump Rhythm n' Blues and Rockabilly. You can't do that on an electric bass. EVERY Rockabilly band I've ever seen or heard, whether contemporary or on old recordings use upright bass. I've been swing dancing for over 20 years and have been to countless rockabilly concerts and events, and my younger brother played guitar in various rockabilly bands that all had an upright bass. Maybe you're thinking of surf rock or something...

Slap bass on an electric? Ha! This is pure vintage stuff, and a skilled bassist with swingability, ya dig? By the way, maybe you should call Neil Young or Eddie Vedder and tell them what you think of people who perform with old tube amps. They will laugh you off of the Internet!

What’s your problem with ribbon mics? If it weren’t for ribbon mics a lot of historical recordings would not of happened. Linda Ronstadt once did a big tour with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and she sang on a ribbon mic. She could afford any microphone on the planet yet she chose that one. If people are going for authentic sound that’s how you get it, there’s no computerized or sampling way of getting that true vintage sound & feel.

He talks like Brian Setzer isn't Stray Cats. Brian carried that no talent for years; shouldn't have been paid.
