One of my favorite fencers to watch
So good. Him and Le Pechoux must be the shortest fencers on the top tier circuit at 1m70, and absolutely killing it!

@@rikkiren as someone who's fenced in both disciplines, the way you score in foil is much more precise of an action, as there is a smaller target area, most of which can be covered in a split-second by a good parry. You can be as fast as you want in foil, but only heavens knows if you'll hit on target or even find the opponent's blade.

How does one become this fast? Any specific workouts?

A lot of agility training. Not sure on specific workouts though but I imagine this guy probably does a lot of sprinting as part of his workout regime

Each foil has a little button thing at the end at the tip, and those “reflective” or metallic vests that they are wearing also have sensors inside of them. The handles of each sword as well as the vests have wires connecting from them to the scoreboard, and each time the sword touches the opponents vest it adds a point. It’s a very very reliable system

Yuki Ota was fast yes but I'd argue that Lee was still faster.

From my observation, Yuki Ota, while being faster than average fencers, doesn't rely on his speed very often (or at least not as often as Lee). Even so, I believe Ota could be as fast as Lee does in his (Ota) prime. If we're speaking about bladework, I will argue that Ota's bladework was faster than Lee's bladework these days. Though, to be fair, comparing Ota and Lee just because they are fast is as fair as comparing Avola and Garozzo just because they are Italian. Lee, from what I've seen, has a style similar to Le Pechoux (that is using speed to dominate the tempo and bout) while Ota's (again, from what I've seen) is quite technical and cautious (not as cautious as Avola but you should get what I mean). You might want to compare Ota with Heo Jun, another Korean, since I believe they have similar style, though I think Heo is arguably slower than Ota and Lee, or at least never demonstrated that he has speed equal to Lee and Ota

It’s not against the rules whatsoever, the only thing is that if the opponent steps off before striking the other r person, they automatically lost that point since they stepped off… but you can run
A foil or epee fencer can't be the fastest one
