Lee Jung Woo (이정우 (탁구 선수)) is a Korean table tennis player. Playing traditional penhold style (j-pen), famous for his strong lefty forehand and fantastic footwork like all legendary penholders. Lee Jung Woo is the third Korean penholder that I made the tribute video for, after Ryu Seungmin and Kim Taek Soo. Being penholder myself it was a pleasure to watch Lee Jung Woo fantastic movement and skilled forehand.

I wonder if I've ever seen a player this fast. Kim Taek Soo, Ryu Seung Min and Wang Jian Jun spring to mind, but this guy.... Just look at the points starting at 2:55. How on earth does he get there in time to play forehand? Incredible. Thanks Top 8 for another gem, bringing the unsung icons of table tennis to the masses.

Kyaw Hsu Thway First and most importantly, learn how to switch from forehand to backhand grip very quickly. Then work on backhand smashes. Finally, work on adding spin to your backhand blocks. I assume you already know how to hit a pen forehand so it’s only a tiny ajustment from c pen forehand to j pen forehand

thanks a lot for the info Daniel. I am actually a shakehand player and I want to try out jpen because it requires more footwork. My question is how do you put spin on your backhand block with penhold? I have seen the penhold t.b.h smash but putting spin on blocks? I have very little idea.

Play as much forehand as you possibly can.

Kyaw Hsu Thway the way you can put spin on backhand blocks is like this. To put topspin you can simply move your racket up while blocking the ball, I’ve also found that if you lightly do it, it puts a sort of knuckleball effect on it. Ryu Seung Min did a topspin block a lot. He would basically push the ball, but in the process move his bat upward to put topspin on. The way to put clockwise spin on the ball (from birds eye view it looks like clockwise motion) is since you are left handed, while in the process pull your racket to the forehand side but keep the same blocking form. The put counterclockwise spin on the ball, you would push the racket out to your right while blocking the ball. To put backspin on a block, push the racket down while blocking. Ryu Seung Min and Ma Lin are excellent at this so go study their backhand blocks and look at their motions when they do it!
