This is a very SMALL thing, but I can't help noticing the first thing he says "thank you for having me, and my translator, Hailey." Just goes to show how humble, thoughtful, and warm of a person he is. It's the little things, like how you treat waiting staff, how you talk to your stunt doubles, etc, that really set apart "role model worthy stars" and fad celebrities that fizzle out. I hope Lee Jungjae meets even MORE success in the international film/tv industry cause I think he's definitely a worthy role model! In fact, some from hollywood could probably take notes.

Some media frames were uncomfortable.. Many people enjoyed Squid Game drama. The media instigates and frames an image. I've seen several violent and brutal dramas and movies. What did I see? Some Western media's evaluation of the standard of the squid game is contradictory and double. Is it just because of the discomfort of the global popularity of English-speaking dramas?

Also, in English when the korean surname "Lee" is used it's actually an anglicization ( is that a word? ) of the surname "Yi" 이 which sounds more like "E" than anything. North koreans do have the surname Rhee but it isn't common.

After looking at the comments discovered it was Korean so I looked into it more, thought it was the most beautiful language I've ever heard. Made some Korean friends through Discord and Twitch learning channels. Then they got me into kpop and dramas... Sadly a lot of that kinda fell off and I put learning Korean on hold for now. I think it's due to the culture as well, they are very set on manners and respect towards eachother, whereas in the west I feel like a lot of people either forget the manners when they're older or just have never been thought to show respect to others. My sister went to Seoul and said she's never felt so safe in a big city, no one made her feel unsafe even though she was a woman all alone in a foreign country. All shop owners were all very helpful and respectful too. I think we could really learn from them in that sense.

You will feel safe walking alone even at night over there. Also Koreans dont steal other people's belongings at cafes, restaurants, subways etc. I mean it is partly because there are CCTVs everywhere but i think them not stealing goes beyond that. I think it has something to do with their culture. I lost both my wallet and cellphone once when I was in Seoul and i got those back the next day. Whoever picked them up dropped them at a police station and a police officer called me to pick them up the next day. The cash was still there in my wallet

I have always been a huge fan of Stephen Colbert and this interview just made my respect for him grow to another level. He is so respectful and aware. For example, Stephen was ready for a handshake and wanted a fist bump a couple of times but he immediately recognized it wasn't going to happen and did not force the situation. He also pronounced Lee Jung-jae's name correctly! I'm pretty sure he also knew exactly what the dalgona game was and intentionally gave Lee Jung-jae the easy one and himself the hard one so that he could purposefully lose and make the guest feel at ease and also not drag out the interview by actually trying to succeed with the umbrella. Although not a whole lot of new information was revealed from this interview it was very wholesome and Lee Jung-jae was as charming as ever. Kudos to him for publicly recognizing his translator and also for answering in English whenever he felt comfortable with it.

Lee Jung Jae is such an amazing actor, it really makes me happy to see him being "discovered" by the rest of the world! His roles in the Along with the Gods movies and the K-drama Chief of Staff are not to be missed! One thing I can't help appreciating: after years of people demanding Korean actors and singers speak English (I can't count the number of times this was leveled as a criticism against BTS, and it was terrible during the Parasite era!) it makes me really happy to see the slow normalization of entertainers speaking their own language on American TV. There are lots of great interpreters out there who I'm sure don't mind the work, and there are always subtitles! People are missing a lot if amazing entertainment if they let the language barrier limit their choices!

This has never been the case; probably why you can’t count them. BTS is the only Korean singers around here and only be in the US proper for 4 years. They always have translators and have fro the beginning. If they don’t it’s because they CHOOSE to have RM translate. Korean actors have only be around here since Parasite last year, and they always have translators. There is no demanding situation, it hasn’t been for years, that is some delusional stuff of fangirl right there.

@@alwaystakemarktwainsadvice4269 What are you even talking about? I have never seen Korean actors featuring on nighttime TV in the US AT ALL, frankly, and people constantly complain about Korean entertainers not speaking English in interviews here. You hear people say, "I don't listen to X because you can't understand what they're saying," "I don't watch foreign movies because I don't like to read." Bong Joon Ho even mentioned subtitles in his Oscar speech, and the idiot president at the time was whinging about subtitles in Parasite. I must have missed where I was a "delusional fangirl." I'm not sure exactly what's got your panties in a bunch, but... I can't believe I just wasted 30 seconds on a comment that doesn't even make sense. LOL Anyhoo... have a nice holiday season! And I promise, my ego ain't fragile. 💜
