Gül Pembe talking about looks is not as taboo of a subject as in America. And it's not just Koreans. All my Asian friends are pretty blunt about talking to each other about looks, whether attractive or unattractive. I actually prefer it that way but in the American culture, everyone seems to be so hypersensitive when it concerns appearances. It's just different norms and sanctions based on the society.

Gül Pembe it's a blunt culture and a completely different society. Things that are considered majorly rude in Korea may not be perceived the same as in the American society. And vice versa. Like I said, different societies, different norms and sanctions. We live in a world where societies and cultures are so diverse, that in one setting, you might get reproached for burping at the dining room table but in another setting, reproached for Not burping after a meal.

Are you Western? I've noticed Western people seem to find ugly Asians pretty. I don't mean "ugly" in terms of crazy Korean beauty standards, but just normal average Asian standards. We just have different ideas of beauty. For example, I and a lot of other Asians just find Angelina Jolie scary-looking, not pretty.

In my opinion, it's sad that so many in the comments are talking about his looks and her 'standards in men' as if a good appearance (according to society) makes someone be a 'higher standard'. I personally believe that people who are of a 'higher standard' are those who are wiser and kinder and more emotionally intelligent compared to others, not those who are more good-looking than others. After all, looks are things you're born with and tell you nothing about what kind of partner, person, parent etc. that person will be. It's really nice to see that Hyori looked past society's expectations and married the right man for her and someone who she could live with for a long, long time (hopefully happily too). Plus in this clip, they're not even talking about Sung Soon's looks but rather about how no one knew who he was (they had probably expected her to get married to another celeb) and was surprised when she decided to get married to someone they barely knew. The fact that people are still bringing up his looks when the clip didn't mention it makes me believe that people are thinking about appearances way too much. It'd be nice if appearances were just something that we all didn't talk about, whether as a compliment or as an insult, because we're all so much more than that. And looks are very subjective anyway.

Yeah. And she was probably wild, too. In a conservative country, people assume that liberated women can only get married to a foreigner because they're liberated as well. Or to a rich man because people expect rich men to do wild stuff abroad too. And her exes were really famous stars. Like Eun Jiwon. So they may have expected someone really famous or handsome. Sangsoon is famous but not to her extent.

It’s indeed wise and good of her to proactively choose to live somewhere far where there are way less temptations and opportunities to cheat.

actually in one of jaesuk new show, where hyori and sangsoon became first guest in ep 1, when they were resting afternoon. hyori said this to jaesok (pretty much sums up like this), sangsoon has been into dj ing a lot and go to seoul for that, jaesok said isnt that great he has hobby? and hyori answer but thats not the man i fell in love, what do i do?.

I love how Korean women looks for their ideal man for marriage. Or at least I like the way they portray it on variety shows. Like how loving they are to their parents, how they take care of their friends since they're the oldest, or if they have a good job to support her and a child. Stuff like that
