Lee Cougan Rampage Innova: The lightest suspension frame I've ever built!

My next build project centers around the very light and unique Lee Cougan Rampage Innova. It's the first of its kind that has entered my garage and I'm stoked about it!

Many years ago I bought a used Litespeed Unicoi frame off e-bay. It was their soft tail design. I loved that frame to no end. I just finished building up a new bike and gifted the Unicoi to my daughter.

Is nice Clint you always go with this smaller brands. They do some good stuff just because they cant get sleep in order to compete with the big names.

Pinarello, Lee Cougan, Thömus would be my top three. I think one of these will win the Olympics in Paris (ohh, riders win not their bikes😄). The Epic - highest rated here in US it seems - not even in my top five.

Amazing how light these XC bikes are these days. My Cervelo ZHT-5 also came in at under 24 LBS straight out of the box in size XL with pedals and bottle cages added; such a fast climber. I have lots of flowy trails where I live and mix my rides with gravel trails and bike paths; full-sus is not really warranted. You'll love that Lee Cougan on those tame FL trails.

Yeah no kidding! I built my Procaliber frame up and it doesnt have the lightest stuff on it (GX with aluminum wheelset and a heavy bontrager dropper) and it comes in at around 24ish lbs. I could definitely lighten the whole bike up a couple lbs with a nicer wheelset.. but I could also stand to lose a couple lbs of body fat too 😂

@@MTB_CRZY same here, alloy wheel set, GX transmission and 2.4" tires. I thought about adding carbon parts and perhaps lighter tires to drop the weight down to 22ish LBS. Not worth it, and I lost 12 LBS since I got the bike anyway, basically 1/2 of the bike weight. I guess I should lose another 12 LBS.

Weights have actually stagnated for 20 years because of bigger wheels and bigger suspension... In 2004 I was riding for Trek... my Top Fuel 100 with a SID World Cup fork, Bontrager aluminum wheels (they weren't even the RaceLite version), M960 XTR with discs, Bontrager aluminum bar/post (again not even the best RaceLite version) was 24.5lbs. My 9.8 hardtail was about 23lbs even with similar components. If you look at what bikes the top World Cup riders are running today, they are almost the same weight using super light components like carbon cages, missing disc brake bolts, etc...

Im super happy with my new XT 12 speed. Flawless shifting and 4 pot brakes are amazing in power and modulation. I built up a nos 2017 Epic frame with it. With alloy wheels and cockpit in size xl with pedals its 25.2 lbs. Super fast and fun. $2800 total with a fox 32 factory stepcast.

Stem looks perfect Ride it, and see how it fits you, you don’t just pick a stem length. The stem is judged off of the rest of the geometry.

Nice bike, but the headset routing for cables is such a turn-off. Why does the industry insist on this complication? Anyway, I do wonder about the soft-tail setup so I look forward to the ride review.

27.2 and it would be dropper compatible because you can run the cable through the headset and frame.
