Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the West And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Ohh, whoa Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one, and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

Well they have no clue what great music this is it's a timeless classic. I remember in high school chorus some got to choose songs to preform live & my classmate & his band chose this song after they were done with their performance the school stood shocked cuz they didn't know what to make of it. Well I started yelling & clapping & told Wes that him & his band did such a great job. People need to broaden their horizons & not be so uptight & enjoy awesome music

My Grandfather absolutely loved Led Zeppelin. Whenever me or my siblings were in the car with him and this song came on, he always told us that this was the greatest song of all time. He passed away 7 December 2021. Now every time I hear this song or any Zeppelin song, I'm convinced that he put it on for me. Rest easy, Grandpa. I'll keep getting the Led out for you.

I'm sorry your Grandpa had to go. It's so odd for me to know exactly what I was doing the day he died, but December 7th is my brother's birthday, and at one point in the morning that day I was sitting out back on the patio sending him a long, brotherly text. And I remember thinking that I never forget his birthday partly because it's also Pearl Harbor Day. Now I will never forget that it's the day that Mitchell's Grandpa passed on. Kind thoughts to you, friend. Grandpa has climbed the stairway, huh? As a grandpa myself, I can assure you too that he loved you and the others in a way that was multiplied even from how he loved his own children. Kids are great, but grandchildren are great+++ because as we (that's you too) get older and closer to the "stairway", we reflect more and more on the only way we can live on here on Earth...through you. Peace.

Obviously the Abrahamic God can very well be real and our existence is merely for God's entertainment. It can well be worth to listen for that songbird on the rare occasion you hear it above all the noise of our lives. And most importantly, it is not too late to change the direction of your life. The best grace is that God purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave all our sins. This immeasurable gift was given to you when you believed. You didn’t work for it and you didn’t even deserve it. If He stopped there it would have been enough, but He continues to give us even more grace, kindness, wisdom, and understanding. What an awesome God! For He so loved the world that He gave His only Son. “Be still (cease striving) and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10). Grace gives me the freedom to forget about other people’s opinions. I can learn to be the person that God created me to be before the lies of this world attached themselves to me. I don’t need to impress other people. I just need to be faithful to the One who created me, and He already loves me, so I have nothing to prove. I am free to be me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made with a purposeful design. Getting to know God through His Word helps me to know my purpose in life. And when I know it, I can go ahead and live it. If the Son sets me free, I am truly free (John 8:36).

The great thing about long rock songs is, usually, it's not 8 long minutes of hard rock. It's a journey, a slow path up to the top, a song that takes the time not because it wants more rock, but because it NEEDS the time to have the proper buildup. Songs like this take their time because the crescendo wouldn't be the same without the slow, building melody that creates it. In other words, you'll always need to build that stairway if you want to truly make it to heaven.

"Stairway To Heaven" There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed, now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Oh, whoa Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

Atlantic Records pressed that special edition white label promo for radio stations to play on the air. Stereo was for FM, while mono was for AM stations. Many AM stations had tight restrictions for playing an 8 minute song in 1971, but FM had no problem at all, and they were the ones who gave the song massive airplay. Led Zepplin didn't want any commercial singles released from "Led Zepplin 4"/"ZOSO". They were an album oriented band, and singles to them were loss leaders for the AM stations. Atlantic also issued a rare jukebox EP around the same time that played at 33 RPM that had "Stairway To Heaven" on one side, and "Black Dog" and "Rock & Roll" on the other side. In 1991, Atlantic issued a special 30th anniversary single as a promo with all 8 minutes of the song on side one.

@Riley Uzamaki Sit down, Riley, I'll tell you a story: See, back in the day, some jackass will spend days to weeks learning Stairway to heaven. Because they thought that if they hung out at guitar shops playing this song, chicks will think they can play, and basically throw their vag at them. They even had this joke in Wayne's World.

I'm guessing Smoke On The Water gets similar attention. Guitar shops are sick of kids playing that riff. My local guitar shop had a warning poster on their jam room door in that anybody caught playing the mentioned songs would be asked to leave. I thought it was a joke. The banned entries included this song, Smoke, Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), anything by Nirvana, Johnny B Goode, You Really Got Me (be it the Kinks or Van Halen's version) and a few others that I can't remember.
