I was probably 5 or 6 the first time I remember hearing The Beatles. My dad listened to all the great classic rock groups around the house, while I was growing up. Still listens, too. While I do enjoy modern music, too, my preference is classic rock now. It’s just so much richer than most things today’s artists bring to the table.

1971 I was 15 when I first heard this album. My best friend played it for me on his 8 track tape player. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I had never heard anything like it. We listened to it over and over that night on a tobacco farm in Hinesville Georgia, I was visiting him from Miami Fl. , ( you want to hear it again, "yes"). At the end that night I bought his 8 track tape player, the Led Zeppelin 2 tape for 80.00 dollars, it was all the money I had and I was happy to spend it all on that. Took it back home and played it for months and months . I still love hearing every song on Zeppelin 2. Great reaction you two, you both bring somethings real to your reactions. No mask or phony reactions on your part. Glad I found your channel, Thanks. Steven

  • @henriettaskolnick4445

I love this song; the overdubbing is rich, lush, and tasteful. The tapping is Bonzo pattering on something - no one knows what (the 3 have been asked and no one remembers). Some say he's tapping on an empty guitar case, some say his knees, or a stool/chair and I'm sure there's other theories as well. Personally, I think it's an empty guitar case. I love how the acoustic guitar remains throughout even after the electric guitar comes in and those bass punches are killer. According to Jimmy, that smooth, sustaining violin-like tone you mentioned was achieved by him using the neck pickup on his Les Paul with the treble cut and as well as using a sustain-producing effects unit. There are isolated tracks on KZread of the acoustic guitar, Jonesy's bass, and I think some of Robert's vocals. Near the end, Jimmy had asked Robert to improvise more lyrics, which is why you can hear him continue through the entire fade out. This is one of their earliest songs where their richness of sound, musicality, and composition shine. It shows a bit of their musical evolution, ingenuity, and confidence to go for something a bit different. Rest assured; you guys are going to have a lot of "favorites" so don't worry about trying to pick just one. Their music is for moods and emotions and you'll find extra meaning in how you apply listening to them.

No, I'm not in the music business in any way/shape/form; I'm merely a "conscientious consumer" and a slightly potty Zep fan! 😆You, however, having been around many aspects of the biz must have some real humdinger stories to tell! That would be great fun to listen to! I really appreciate La and Che for being willing to do a full catalogue treatment; *that* is rare - plus, they listen, appreciate, and are genuine - clearly not a couple of no substance "like/comment/subscribe" clickbait posers. I hope La and Che forgive me for mentioning another reactor, but if you haven't checked out Soul Train Bro and his Zep reactions, you must. He doesn't do reactions anymore but he also did their entire catalogue. A couple of gold standard channels here.

This is my favorite Led Zepplin song too. Unofficially referred to as "Bilbo's Song" by some, Ramble On is an homage to "The Hobbit" Bilbo Baggins of J.R.R. Tolkien's' Lord of the Rings'. His baby (a girl so fair) is not a girl at all; it's the one ring of power. Bilbo finds it "in the darkest depths of Mordor I met a girl so fair, but Gollum and the evil one (Sauron) crept up and slipped away with her." Misty Mountain Hop is another awesome Tolkien inspired Zep song.

I used to play this very, very loudly in my car back in HS. I had a pair of house speakers hooked up in the back seat and it that clicking drum beat made me think I was blowing the speakers at first. Good times. Lots of Tolkein references in this song if you look at he lyrics. This and the Battle of Evermore are heavily influenced by Tolkien.

I was forever a fan of LZ when they first came out, when I was a freshman in high school. I took up playing bass guitar in a couple of garage bands during that time. This was and still is one of my most favorite "tasty" bass lines. Listen to the song and concentrate on the bass to appreciate the comment. Truly appreciatiing music involves training yourself to listen to all the parts and elements together and individually at the same time. It makes music a spiritual human experience.

It's the arrangement. Rick Beato breaks down this song . He says it is voice, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums and bass sublimely arranged. The percussion is much discussed with a guitar case thought to be the most likely "instrument". Bonzo playing to be part of the whole which is the other side of his greatness -knowing when to dazzle and when to hold back.

I love seeing a couple of guys appreciate the genius of Led Zeppelin. Not 1 album sounds like the other? You cannot say that about most any band? Think about that! You guys love music same as me! Keep the videos coming!

This is an amazing song! It’s great to have reactors really get this song. Rick Beato does “Why is this song so great?” And breaks down each instrument. They’re so much going on that you don’t 30th realize.

At the two minute mark, yes absolutely man this is got to be one of my favorite Jonesy rambling bass lines. It's just so perfect for this song. And then all those back beats that John Bonham does once they hit the chorus, all those back beats on the kick are just amazing man.

I met a girl in Mordor, its Lord of the rings things as in the book. Mr Baggins going on a ramble and finding/stealing/tricking Gollum into getting the ring was. the inspiration for the song. The later the albums they get the more bits of folk music seems to seep in.

It's fun to listen to JPJ's isolated bassline from Ramble On, on You Tube. Also, lines taken from Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit of which he was a big fan (of the books, back then). This is absolutely a killer track; always loved it.

JP amazing as always..Trivia: Legendary singer Etta James at Montreaux way back (can't recall the year) did her "bring down the house" version of "I'd Rather Go Blind", and she needed a bassist to sit in..That bassist was JP..Not a lot of people knew that, 'cause he just lays in the background with the drums..Should check it out..Unreal rendition by Etta!..The woman knew how to work a room!!..Should not, by law, be permitted to be missed!
