In fact, it's quite ordinary for its time. Every rock band back then recorded live the "naked" song and afterwards made overdubs

@@chopperdeath I don't think any of those guys could read music, if they were able to record quick and precise was because they played, a lot, they played in rehearsals and in gigs, thousands of hours literally... there are no miracles here, only hard work. The majority of bands that had success back in the day were stakhanovites, Hendrix slept with his guitar, woke up and started to play, the guys from Aerosmith went to live to the same apartment to stay together all the time and play non-stop... I mean, it wasn't rock and roll lifestyle all the time, that's probably the lesser time compared to playing music, wether in rehearsals, a gig or recording in a studio

Your Favorite drummers favorite drummer is John Henry BONZO Bonham of LED ZEPPELIN...He passed away 1980 and 42yrs later he is still regarded as the BEST rock Drummer that ever lived....They even named a drum rudiment after him "(THE BONHAM TRIPLET)
This is the most genuine reaction to this song yet. It's lovely

Best kick drum song ever. Gets you funking then trips you up, picks you up and gives the beat back so you can groove again, then repeats the cycle. 😅
My favorite track by the mighty zeppelin. It's relentless and it's just a hammer that bobs and flows but keeps smashing you.
Definitely an epic piece. This is their longest studio track, I believe. Check out the live '75 Earl's Court version. It's definitely "to die for."

That’s the late great John “Bonzo” Bonham on drums And yeah, his playing on this track is especially great. Right up there in the mix too That’s actually his voice at the end saying “That’s going to be the one, innit?”
John Bonham on the drums. Phenomenal on this song!!!!!
Bonzo aka John Bonham is one of the greatest groove drummers to date. It's one thing to say , yeah I could play this beat, it's another to say yeah I could create this beat. Good luck. Lot of iconic drummers past and present, but Bonham is upper tier just for the simple fact that A. he was hugely talented and B. He created so many iconic drum beats. I still hear things that just wow me, saying did I just hear that? Did he just do that? Great drummer, and he played a kit with a huge bass drum and large toms, give it that louder fat sound. King of the triplets for sure.

One of my favorite LZ songs! Taken from the old blues song "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" by Blind Willie Johnson from 1927.

This is still my reaction after every time I hear it too. I think this might be the only piece of music that actually makes me sweat listening through it. I think from playing in bands, I’m just barely experienced enough to dream of getting myself into this jam, and yet experienced enough to know that I’d live up to about .1% of the skill & talent working together to pull this off here and if I had a hundred years I’d still never have the musical creativity to take this everywhere they take it and hold it all together.
So, the greatest rock drummer of all-time caught your attention? Exactly!! Awesome :)
I was smiling so much watching you enjoy this song. Glad to see you're continuing your journey through the Zeppelin rabbit hole, Angela....and personally, the look you gave at about 6:25 was about the sexiest thing ive seen! 😉lol Great reaction as always, can't wait to see you hit 50K!
The true power of the blues.
Initially it was always Plant and Page that caught my ear but after 40 years, i can't stop listening to Bonham and JPJ when i hear Zeppelin. Monstrous!
Nice reaction beautiful. John Bonham is killing the drums on this track.
John Bonham, arguably the best rock and roll drummer ever. All four of them are/were immensely talented musicians. Led Zep was amazing not only in their technical musicianship but also in that they wrote so many songs with so many influences. Truly amazing lads...

Said before. But this was recorded live. Wow. Pure and unadulterated Rock Blues. Just beautiful.
Led Zeppelin definitely was an improvisational band, and many times did not do more than a couple takes on recordings, preferring to leave things as is. Some songs were exceptions of course. The improv aspect was full on at live shows where they could be soaring or crashing, sometimes both within the span of one song.
My favorite band since 69 ❤
LZ the favorite band of my youth and today as well. Loved loved ur reaction. They were THE SHYTE. Yes, Bonzo has his fair share of nay sayers but without question, Led Zep would not have been LZ without him. When he passed, LZ was no more. Epic monster tune. Thanks for your reaction. Hugs. Mark
Dear Angela there are many bands and there are also great bands but then there is Led Zeppelin a class above everyone and every other band👌
This song is a re-working of Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed by Blind Willie Johnson. It is a hard groove and a bit of a tour de force by the band. Please don't forget bassist John Paul Jones adding that meaty punch throughout. The end was improvised; vocalist Robert Plant wasn't sure how he wanted to end the song, so there is a pause, then drummer John Bonham coughs, to which Robert replies with "cough". Then you hear Bonham's voice say "That's got to be the one, hasn't it?" meaning that was going to be the best take of the song to use. Then you can hear the engineer in the booth say "Come have a listen, then" and Bonham reply "Oh yes, thank you". Producer Jimmy Page often liked to leave little "mistakes" in place so the listener could feel like they were there in studio while the band recorded. If you want to see an amazing live performance of this, here's a YT link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoims5mvhb3ZedI.html

I just made my comment below but now i heard you talking about imagining the studio recording of the song. I have said on other channels that--I'm serious, now, real talk, lol!--I would gladly give 1% of whatever my future income might be if I could have a decent-quality video of this song being recorded. This take. And you're right--it WAS recorded live, which is why at the end you hear their small talk "That's gonna be the one, isn't it?" "Come over and listen then." "Oh yes, thank you." In my head I always work up a pretty good little music video for it, but, I just think it must have been ELECTRICITY itself for the band members, knowing they were killing it AS they were killing it. I swear, man, if I could just hear AND SEE it, lol!
Totally honest and sincere first time reaction
Oh my Jesus, oh my Jesus It looks like your mouthing what is he saying and that’s what he was saying. If you look at the lyrics, this appears to be a very spiritual song of someone realizing that it’s their time to die doesn’t want anyone to mourn, and just wants heaven to give him a chance For any wrongdoing, he may have done to still make it to heaven. The lyrics are amazing. That Aside. Yes, the marriage between the guitar and the drums and Roberts vocals is extraordinary.
John Bonham is the drummer. A master!!😊
First of all, you are absolutely gorgeous. Secondly, the drummer is John Henry Bonham, aka “Bonzo” . He is arguably one of the best rock drummers of all time. his backbeat is second to none. Being a drummer myself, hearing this song again, reminds me, of how hard hitting he was. Sadly Bonzo passed on September 20, 1980.
Your are just beautiful great reaction to a great tune... Well, well, well...
Robert Plant-vocals, John Paul Jones, bass and keys, John Bonham (Bonzo) percussion, Jimmy Page guitar, composer, producer, director of the band.
So glad you are listening to my favorite Zep album. Any song off this album you will be amazed at the musicianship. It will blow your mind there is a reason why they are one of the greatest Bands of all time.
Bonham sure was a drum'n son of a gun. What a beast!
That's just F ing Jamming !! Damnnnnn.
I like how you just sit back and enjoy the disbelief.
9:03 He's saying "oh my Jesus". This was originally an old gospel song with the original composer lost to time before others started recording it. It's about a man making a case to be let into Heaven.
Bonzo is arguably the greatest drummer of all time. The feel he has and the way he fills the pockets is second to none. I suppose it helps when you have Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in the band!!
God I love watching you groove to the best rock band of all time. 😅
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your joyous reactions while listening to one of my favorite songs of my youth. Physical Graffiti is a major reason I got a part time job at age 13. So I could then spend way to much money on upgrading my stereo system (that's what we called them then 😊)

He, along with Bill Ward from Black Sabbath, Ian Paice from Deep Purple and Neil Peart from Rush set the bar high for drums in the 70's.... John Paul Jones, Zepplin's bass player is ridiculous on every track they did. ..... make sure to dig The Lemon Song :)

I bought this album when it came out my junior year in high school 47 years ago. At $12 or $13, for a double album, it ate up a bit of my spending money for the month. While it is an amazing record, it gave me my new favorite Zeppelin song "Kashmir". After a few years with "Stairway to Heaven" as my favorite, it git pushed aside. You want more John Bonham? Check out "Moby Dick", there's a live version that'll get your blood pumping.

So you just listened to Zep's "In My Time of Dying" and say you found it to be: Haunting, and it gave you chills, it was a "moving experience," even a bit scary and almost made you teary-eyed. And the drums especially blew you away. Yep. Sounds about right! Awesome reaction to one of my favorite songs from my favorite band! May I suggest "In The Light" from the same album. Different, but you should still feel many of the same things! Just one of MANY, MANY such from this group!
John Henry Bonham / Singer Robert Plant. they were incredibly Good, they have done Songs in few or less Takes, Jimmy Page has done Guitar Work in a Single Take.

Excellent BIG LOVE NATIVE NATIONS
Led Zeppelin was: Robert Plant (vocals) Jimmy Page (guitar) John Paul Jones (Bass and keyboards) the late, great John Bonham (drums) Three songs in the Led Zeppelin catalog, illustrate why John Bonham was one of the greatest rock and roll drummers ever: 1) This song 2) Black Dog 3) Fool in the Rain This song, while relatively obscure in the Led Zeppelin catalog, is one of my all-time favorites. When I was in college, I used to put this song on,, turn it up, and play the "air drums." The thing Robert Plant was saying near the end was "Oh my Jesus" and later "I'll Touch Jesus." I've loved this song for years, but for the past 5-1/2 years I've worked as a hospice nurse and I've recently really appreciated the lyrics from that perspective. I'm so glad you appreciated this song, Great reaction!

9:03 - He's saying Jesus. The song is a remake of "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" by Blind Willie Johnson.
What a wonderful analysis there at the end. I can tell you really get it. I'm a musician of many decades and I haven't heard this in such a long time. In fact I think I've heard the Bob Dylan version more recently than I've heard the Led Zeppelin version. But yeah fucking Bonzo on those drums man, he was a force of nature, just beyond belief. But don't ever forget the importance of John Paul Jones in there man, he's either playing bass or keyboards most of the time and sometimes both at once. But he's really the glue that holds it together and then everybody is just so phenomenal. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant rounded out and they were just so tight and so hard and so talented and had such a great sense of humor. But most of all, they knew how to absolutely rock.
All in one take!!! That alone is amazing! Then there is the music...
John Bonham the drummer passed away in 1980. That was the end of Led Zeppelin though they did play a couple of times since, once with John's son Jason Bonham on drums. I don't know if you ever watched Heart's cover of Stairway To Heaven, but Jason plays drums on that and the surviving members, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were in the audience. In My Time Of Dying is my favorite Zeppelin song.
Love this song!
