Let me just say thank you for uploading this lecture. Dr Capwell is an absolute legend and he's always very interesting to listen to, especially when he talks about the very recent developments (or, I suppose, redevelopments) in the armour community. Hopefully we'll see that damn second book of his soon!

Glad you found it worthwhile ! Toby Capwell, is a very knowledgeable guy and very approachable. It was a dream of mine to meet him, let alone do an interview with him. Really glad to see my hard work paid off! A lot of work was put into this one, with contacting the museums, editing and working with Toby directly. I'll be there again and will record the next one-Reece

As noted on other videos Tobias's level of thought, experimentation and academic rigour are superb and fascinating, they might even make it okay for us to be lectured about 'history before the motor car' by a 'damn yankee - don-cher-know' ;-)

This was a very interesting and insightful lecture from 2014. Much of what is being said makes a lot of sense and in hindsight obvious. Thanks for posting.

Was there ever any armour painted glazed black finish maintaining purty shiny in pre 1800's? Everything else was very engaging as replicating as best to past methods

Look up Greenwich armor. It’s pretty, it’s shiny, and some is black (plus guilding).

I'm brand new 2 getting suits of armor and I'm also still looking from what century cause I can't exactly wear anything I want because I'm not exactly... Build.... For it... (big belly and ass) so yh something as awesome as German Gothic armor is a hell no for me or anything that goes tight along the waist or middle of your torso... Tho 14 to 15th century armors I think I can wear some depending on the styles... I'm also going for as light a material as possible because I'm not very strong and got bad back... Yes not wise but I got my reasons 2 do this...my father was why I started this N also.... Come on... It's medieval armor that's reason enough right? But my dad's old movies about medieval times got me hooked to this and I was very interested in the medieval times... Found a store that orders armor pieces N the like so I got very hypedn wanted 2 show my dad but... He passed away b4 I got the chance.... January 18 2018...may he rest in peace...i still choose 2 do this in his name and my own... So I'm searching for styles that would suit me... Right now Im going for 14 to 15th century Slavic armor as I already own a western armor that's supposed 2 be custom made but I think they messed that up a bit... Very tight on some places where I can't evn put the leg padding and gambeson in decently... So yh... Looking for new places that would be better... Might look for a 2kd western armor that got no faulds/skirt so just the breastplate N backplate with light chain mail shirt

If you can afford it go for it, lose weight if you have to, just cut out sweets and go for walks !!

@@fleadoggreen9062 oh I am doing that and more I'm not overweight just most of my weight is on my damn ass and belly lol I used 2 go 2 the gym till the rona put a stop 2 that because it's closed then I went 2 the back school in the hospital 4 excercises 4 my back N doing exercises whenever I can... Not so much a sweet eater as I used 2 be so that's no issues N I drink 2 liters of water every day... Try n watch what I eat but eh I ''sin'' occasionally heh 😅

The person giving the lecture is, Dr. Tobias Capwell. One of the world's leading authorities on medieval and Renaissance weapons and armour. He lives in the UK and has visited countless castles, so you clearly don't know what you're talking about lol!

I would provide all transport and accommodation. Just pay for your airfare. I respect Dr Capwell, he is probably the leading man to talk to about this era. I think it's great you had such a leading gentleman in your video. But please, come and see it for yourself. We live in Wales, home of Edward the firsts main Castles, aswell as many uprisings. Take up the gauntlet. I'll look forward to hearing from you.
