In this lecture we forge ahead on the formative or Pre-Classic Mesoamerican civilizations, including Monte Alban with its ballcourt and "dancing" figures. Then we tackle Teotihuacan, the Abode of the Gods (according to the Aztecs) and talk about whether this was a true empire. We talk about the Pyramid of the Sun, The Pyramid of the Moon, and some exciting new discoveries at the The Temple of the Feathered Serpent. Along the way we talk a little bit of the pitfalls of archaeology (See what I did there? ) and modern restorations and how drowning was as surefire way to get to paradise in Teotihuacan religion. We also give the people in Utah some baby name suggestions: Smoking Frog and Spearthrower Owl! Make me proud.

the duality of gods is also a feature of ancient Egyptian pantheon; Hathor/Sekhmet, also the same god like Seth can be benevolent protecting Ra's bark in the underworld, and malevolent killing his brother Osiris...etc...

37:50 True, the idea of the cave as a place of origin is widely ingrained in mesoamerican thought; however it’s unlikely that the Mexica would have thought of Teotihuacan as “their” exact place of origin, as in a precise geographical and historical spot.

Childbirth was considered a battle between life and death so, women who died during childbirth were regarded as warriors, therefore they earned the right to go to Tlalocan instead of Mictlán.

Very confusing. If Teotihuacan was burned and destroyed in 450AD, how could Teotihuacano Generals or Princes, be exerting influence in Tikal after 700AD. I’ve seen the evidence, clearly the evidence of Central Mexico with iconography of Teotihuacan is taking over all over the Maya lowlands, but, it is happening 300 years after the burning of Teotihuacan.
