Lectron Dirt Bike Carburetor Review

Спорт

Now that I have used the Lectron carb for a few months, it's time to talk about how things have been going. This is an awesome carburetor!
Just give them a call or visit Lectron's site for more info on pricing and how to purchase:

I have the 36mm lectron carb on my 01 300 exc. the original keihin was trashed, so the lectron was a easy choice for me. I love it! no fuss...no muss. just slapped it on and it works! I ride 2000'-7000' here in north idaho and haven't had to adjust it yet. its been on the bike for 3yrs now and its the best money I've spent.

Hey kyle! I finally got out and tested the lectron. You were right to tell me to hold off on adjusting it until I had a chance to ride it. Well, IT'S SIMPLY AWESOME!!! Once the bike was warm and I got the idle adjusted it ran very smooth and clean from bottom to top. The bike has excellent throttle response and power. The carb has also seemed to eliminate my spooge problem. Thanks again and keep those videos coming!

Not sure if you keep up with comments on a 3 year old video, but it would be cool if you could do a video comparing a carb bike with the Lectron to a TPI If it really works that well it seems like a better alternative than the TPI for the back country folks to have less electronic parts dependency.

I ride and I can tune and I can't believe you didn't look at the plug! 2 strokes run crisp and clean when jetted probably but they also run that way when there a bit on the lean side and can pop! LOL if you know what I mean that's why I always take the plug out and read it bro! I have watched a few of your videos and u give good solid information for the people who need it! 👍that's why u got a new sub! BRAAAAAAAP!

I've worked out the ins and outs of my Keihin and have my bike dialed from sea level to @4K feet or so. The Lectron being able to do that plus take me on up to @10K is truly amazing. I know at 4K feet I start to get a smidge rich so I couldn't go too much higher before performing the public service of fogging for mosquitoes. Thank you for the review, and Lectron should thank you as well because I think you've managed to sell a few for them here. :)

Great review Kyle, I just might have to buy one. One weekend im riding at 800' in dunes or desert wide open the next I'm riding at a trail that starts at 2000' and goes up to 700'...than Im riding in between at around 3000'..with temperatures ranging from hot summer 90 to 100 degree temps down low and 70 degrees up high... Now in the winter its all desert wide open riding in 30 to 50 degree weather... I had installed a jd jet kit and set it to 2k -6k feet but it didnt impress me, boggy / slugish down low and lost top end.

I put a 38mm Smarcarb on my 2011 300XC and this thing rips! Stock size is 36mm, but they older ones used 38 so I went to a 38 and I can pull a 5th gear power wheelie easy! Much more throttle control is needed for sure in the twisties. I'm sure the Lectron would be similar.

I've got three rides (about 8 hours) on my Lectron carb on my 2019 YZ250X. My stock carb was good. But I ride in Eastern Oregon...4500 feet at home, and can be at about 9500 feet during my rides near home. Temps also vary from early Spring 40s....to Summer 100s. My stock carb did great up to about 7500 feet...then would have some throttle bog at 9000 feet in mid range. The Lectron was easy install. Started 2nd kick. Since install it starts first kick every time. But my stock carb did too! The biggest difference is that throttle response is crisp low, mid, and top. I actually have to be more careful because it now responds instantly. Tire lofts when you want it too. Low and mid are PERFECT. I dont get up into top end too much...so I'll report on that later. People report fuel savings...but I jokingly say my fuel consumption will go way up...because I'll be riding so much more now. Money well spent.

Any update on this? Did you keep using the lectron? What about the 38mm on your 2017? I'm specifically interested in the mileage if you did you did use it for several months. Did you find yourself getting better mileage on a tank of gas? I know a lot of guys don't really pay attention to that and just ride, but I really want to be able to get over 100km (60miles) on a tank. After a lot of reading it does seem like 80% of riders experience nice gains, but I'd be interested to hear an update from you given that I appreciate your opinion/videos. BTW, do you use keywords for your videos? When I try to search them (for example: 250) it seems like every single video shows up. I guess that's both good and bad. Good in that people can easily find your videos, but bad in the sense that it makes it difficult to find a bike/product specific video.

My understanding from what friends have said about this carb is it seems easy to adjust but that's based on only single circuit metering. The real issue is that they all have lean deceleration & that can increase wear on the piston/cylinder. Definitely need to meter the throttle slowing down from high speeds, hill decents.

Maybe I'll have to re-visit Lectron and have a look at their stuff. I was right in the center of things moto racing both dirt and road when they first appeared. They were used by the top teams then, but not because they were better. It was the money. In all my dyno and track testing done in the seventies and eighties, the Lectrons did give more peak horsepower than the round slide Mikuni and Keihin carbs. The Lectron fell way short in overall mixture control, so the VM Mikuni, for example, while a little down on peak power, carbureted better over the useful RPM band. That translates into a bike that's easier to ride and better lap times. When the Japanese carb mfgs made flat slides, the Lectron was, in my opinion relegated to the shelf. I'll look at them again as I still focus mainly on carbureted bikes. John at Baldy Mesa Cycle

So I feel like 0-5000 in my experience wouldn’t really make much of a difference if your carb is adjusted right. I wonder how it will perform at 12-14k above sea level.

Realize this vid isn't recent, but thoughts on throttle pull effort? My bikes are always maintained top notch and I love my controls feathery light. A heavier pull effort at the throttle might feel synonymous with a bike that isn't maintained for me. I know that's a small price to pay, more just curious if you noticed anything as I've heard some have.

i recently got back into 2 strokes again after 10yrs. picked up a 96 RM 125 in good condition. i live in PA just outside Philly, don't have many friends here where i moved. my question is that i road the bike in August thru Sept an put it away in my garage. my buddy told me that i should have put fuel stabilizer in it plus a few other things. soon the weather will change here an i can't wait to get riding!! if the bike doesn't start what do u recommend i do to get her going. never had any probs at all over the summer with it so im guessing just a tune up? im just not sure. might sound stupid but im used to 4 strokes...any thing u can tell me will be appreciated!!! love your channel an thanks for all the videos. been learning a lot watching u...thanks

+Iamaze621 W Fuel stabilizer is not a bad idea when it's going to sit for some time. Having said that, I think if you go out there and run your bike once a month for a few minutes, that would help too. That is what I do. I'm guessing you won't have any problems and it will start right up. If it doesn't start, pull the carb off, pull the jets out and and clean things out with a compressed air.

Could this carb cause the bike to run lean and or lead to a damaged head and cylinder that would require a rebuild? Buying a used bike with a Lectron makes one leery as to if the carb may have been modded and if it could cause more problems than it's worth.

Doubt they have tuned it for Maicos. Another carb I've been curious about is the PSI Big Air carb since it's jet less as well, you just need to do external screw adjustments to tune.

+lifetime13 They are used in race application, such as side-car racing (which has won world championships on zabel 700cc which is a Maico base engine for 10 straight years) and even supermoto. I collect Maicos myself and I have the 700cc just for some amateur enduro racing. I have 10 Maicos from 440cc to 500cc and up so it's not like I have 1 bike to ride. Typically I trail ride the 490 and 500s. The 700 doesn't get the gas mileage you would want for long trail rides even. However, it is a unique piece for someone that does like to collect the variation of Maicos from the early 80s to today. I didn't just get it to have a huge bike or I'd be getting a CR650 liger and KTM 550, etc. I specifically get bikes Maico has made preferably big bores for hill climbs.

Can you set me straight about the lectron carb ? First I have a 2018 Husqvarna TE300 and would like to try one but I’m confused alittle, Slaven said they sell a modified one called the mule hv and I emailed lectron and they said it’s the same as they sell, is there two different models a mule HV and a stock model?

So did I understand you right that after you got the needle set its just a matter of adjusting the idle from ride to ride? I got mine at Thanksgiving and have it mounted but not tested. so far it seems to hesitate just off idle and I'm thinking about leaning it out a bit to try and get that crisp throttle response.

+Brian Falcon In most cases, you won't have to touch anything but the idle. Did you say you haven't ridden it? Just remember, you need to make sure to really have the bike warm before making any judgements about how it runs.

One out of topic question. What exactly do you do (job/work) that helps you fund this bike passion? I'm just curious. Because one KTM bike is already off the roof on the cost. Much less have 2, and a bike for each of your kids and other bikes at that....

I'm at sea level here in Boston, sometimes even a little below. What we do have here is massive temperature changes. It's supposed to be around 0 this weekend and a few weeks ago it was 62 degrees. It can shift almost that wildly inside of 24 hours. do you feel that this carburetor responds to temp as well as it responds to elevation changes? Thank you.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sold... Next two stroke bike I get is getting a lectron. I only ride at about sea level to about 1,000 ft... But when it goes between 5 degrees F to 98+ F should give similar results. I know how to tune, I just hate it, I want to get on my bike and ride, not dick around tuning. (I've been off the riding scene for about 9 years, for reasons I don't want to explain I can't ride a dirt bike anymore... But I've been thinking about getting an old TRX250R or a Banshee for beach riding)... Always loved two strokes, other than constantly having to re-jet and tune... Seems like lectron is the answer to that bullshit. All my YZ, CR, RM bikes always needed to be tuned constantly or they got all spoogey out the pipe and fouled plugs when it was hot out, or they pinged when it was cold out. I could tune it to run good, but it was a pain in the ass. (Except my 86 YZ490, I don't think anyone could tune that thing, what a piece of shit... It was fast as hell though, for the few minutes it would run right)
