Nice review. For numerous reasons, I feel the XP is better set up for its intended market. The step through is lower, the rear wheelbase is a bit wider offering a little better/improved stability and the PAS settings offer improved speed ranges and acceleration tuned better for beginners. Keep in mind that most of the important settings one would want to change including torque, are adjustable with the XP. I just wanted to clarify another point. As far as the acceleration of the XP, the torque is VERY easily adjustable using the settings menu to any one of 5 levels, from gentle to much more aggressive. I find the default settings nice and have never adjusted them. Also, the top speeds in PAS 1 & 2 are intentionally slower than the top speed of PAS 3, 4 and 5. Again, an important consideration for new trike riders. But even these limits are adjustable by the user through the settings menu and can be set to be higher in PAS 1 and PAS 2 if desired (to 14mph). Are the settings adjustable with the Mooncool? WAKING UP THE BATTERY only has to be done once after the battery is recharged and it stays 'awake' for up to two days. Not sure why it has to be woken up even once... It appears both trikes max out at about 8mph for those that want to pedal with reasonable resistance without ghost pedaling. Not surprising for a single gear trike. The maximum speed of the XP trike can be reduced to eliminate ghost pedaling, which I do. An option for gears on both trikes would have been nice. Overall, these trikes seem to be very, very similar and I think anyone considering either one will be happy with whichever one they choose. I have about 2500 trouble free miles on my XP although my seat partially broke (a weld point separated) and Lectric responded to me within hours, sent me a replacement seat that was immediately shipped (next day after my initial email to them) and delivered within a week - excellent customer service! Other than that, my trike has functioned flawlessly. I ride it almost every day, 13-17 miles. I am enjoying it so much!

the most alarming takeaway from the drive train statements was the comment about the rear differential bearings falling out of the Mooncool trike! I always feel like I'm buying a pig in a poke with these types of sales, but since there is no history available and no local displays here in the US where we could test-ride one, your type of review is what we must rely on. Thanks.

Just order the xp trike. I had good customer service I called and order on phone. I like the fact that you have to power the trike on the battery. I see this as a safety feature I have grandchildren. They can push buttons on handle bars and nothing will happen. I also like that it has parking brake. I like that it starts out slower . I have'nt received it yet I hope everything is ok when I get it. I'm just going on your video. Thank you

While you were comparing it would have been very simple to look at the differentials on both trikes. Lectric XP trike rear end assembly is made by Taikin in China and I would also bet that the Mooncool differential is marked the same way which would mean the bearings would be the same also. That is a major point when comparing.

Besides the obvious, there was something about the MoonCool that was nagging me that I've seen before and not on the Lectric. Today, when I took my Lectric XP 3.0 for a ride, I found it. The step through brace appears as the same. Fortunately, Lectric did not do that to the Trike. The extra foot space for mounting and dismounting favors the Lectric. The lack of parking brakes is important. Even the slight drainage slope in my garage will have my two trikes heading outside unless I use the parking brake. When I walk my dog with it and have to get off to pick up after her, I tie her to the trike. Without the parking brake, that wouldn't end well. MoonCool has the horn. That's a plus. The so-called directionals are useless, just are any other ones that I've seen on an ebike. Either have size and separation and a pair for both the front and rear of don't have them at all. The real thing lacking in the comparison are a meaningful discussion of the rear ends. I am going to assume the axle size and bearing size are the 6003-2RS 20mm and an unacceptably large percentage of them will fail on the MoonCool as they have and continue to fail on the Lectric. So that leaves the buying decision down to customer service. We know Lectric is replacing the entire Trike. What will MoonCool do? What will either do for people with the failure out of warranty? Tough luck? So, I believe an objective checklist of both features and predictions will favor the Lectric over the MoonCool, until MoonCool has a track record to support their company and products.

That's it for me , I wasn't aware of the axle and bearing issues on these😢 I thought it would be cute and real fun to own a Trike . I may still get one that's Not electric , I wouldn't want to stress that rear axle and bearings. Maybe some other company will build a heavy duty Etrike then I'll be interested again. I have seen some fat tire ones but total weight capacity is around 300 so I'm guessing they're for light duty😢

You only have to wake up the battery on the Lectric if it hasn't been used in 48 hrs. I consider that a good feature to save the battery from being dead , when not used in a while. I have the Lectric & have had zero problems. After viewing this video, I would buy the Lectric again.

Thanks for the review, sir! I didn't know about Moon Cool. Before I knew about Lectric I was considering a Catrike with an "e" upgrade at a much higher investment price. I had been out of the biking world since I was doing Century's with my Trek aluminum bike on weekends with my local club. Now in my 60's fighting a torn ACL & insulin resistance it is more about a way to exercise gently without waiting to be at perfect health first. I also love rail trails and ham radios, thus a program called POTA (Parks On The Air) involves state, national, & Provincial Parks to be part of a program where you set up a low power radio & various antenna designs where you can Intersect 1 or more of these properties to make 10 contacts with your friends to "Activate" the location(s). This gets old hasbeens out of their basement ham radio shacks and into the fresh air, a win-win for my combined Hobby's as a full-time RVer. As far as which bike? Which one folds up more compactly to be carried in an RV? I may have to visit both or multiple showrooms in person to see for myself to give both a try before buying. Thanks for the reviews! I noticed how you very subtly gave more credit to the MoonCool through the words you used. I couldn't help but feel you are in some way associated with the MoonCoiol company. I purchased the Lectric for the following plusses: both wheels are powered (something you didn't mention); seat suspension (much more important to me on a trike than fork suspension); the parking brakes and hydraulic brakes; display is larger and in the center; shorter step-over height; backrest on the seat; softer hand-grips and turning the motor on or off is no big deal for me.

You mentioned "both wheels are powered" (on the Lectric). On all trikes with true differentials, both rear wheels will be powered at all times, an important feature for me. Hope the author will clear this up.

It is nice to know there are more options. For me the lectric pluses are 2 speeds that it can be used as a mobility device the grips look way better and the parking break. The great accessory package, price, the ability to rear tow, option for things like a rear child seat. 3 year warranty option. Moonvools advantages are the faster speeds, widths that will fit into my storage room and turning. I love the fat tires for winter. The irony is.... what will win me over I don't see yet. A bike service shop that will do the warranty and maintenance in my area. (Calgary Alberta) I mean would you buy a var you can't get parts for fast and have a warranty covered?

I figure having the motor in the rear of a Trike would be a bit off balanced when having heavy cargo as the front handlebars will get a bit wobbles at certain times depending on weight, speed and terrain. Having the motor in the front for Trikes maybe more useful of overall balanced from reart to front of the handlebars more control comfort. I notice this with other regular ebikes as well, especially the Fat Tires as I bought a Fat Tire regular ebike and added a 2nd motor in the front to counter this overlooked issues of ebikes. These Trikes here in video are very cool and gave me a look into choices on getting a E Trike Bike but Im going to have heavy load of 40lbs daily so this video gives me what I need to know.

You said if the bearings fall out the trike, "is pretty much finished." I appreciate that non-standardized parts could be difficult to source, and bike shops may not have much experience with this type of rear axle, but is it really right to say the trike is trash when a bearing failure occurs. Is the race built into a portion of the frame and therefore there is catastrophic irreversible damage to a core component, or are you being hyperbolic when you imply it's not easily repaired at a bike shop?

I am 4'10" tall. I found on the Lectric website that the e-trike will work with a person my height, but I couldn't find the information on the Mooncool. From your experience with the two trikes, would you say that since the Lectric XP could be height adjusted to fit me, that the Mooncool would also? I appreciate how thorough you were about the performance and physical differences. There are features I like about both, and I'm still undecided. But if Mooncool would not work with my height, then I have my decision made for me already.

I guess i will wait for the one that has better gears for lasting etrike: 1. Has to have a cassete, at least have 6-7 gears plus 2 front cogs, why? To keep from Ghost pedalling. 2. The back rest should come standard & removable. 3. The TK1 is foldable, so its a plus & on/off swutch to prevent fires. Curent "ON" prevents battery drain. 4. Clean up the wires. 5. Are side mirrors standard? 6. Speed, increase 750+ cuz its heaver, needs higher wattage for better speed hence the gears. Gears can give you torque and speed by changing geas & front cogs. Also with gears, if the battery runs out for some reason, one can always pedal home with less effort, hence the gear changes. 7. The company can always just used mechanical brakes in the back & disk in front for manufacturing price reduction. 8. Really need parking brakes. 9. Since you mentioned those companies needs to improve the Rear Axle. 10. Their support for replacement is not good, why buy it If you know it won't last long and parts are hard to come by especially the rear axle gears? Maybe its cuz its Chinese, nothing the make for the market lasts. If the U.S. manufacturers can make the same with better quality and better pricing, why buy foreign. I will wait until they both companies sell better models, & price reduction or an American company will somehow manufacture one to beat thise two. There are Ebikes out there that you can install baskets front and back for grocery runs and far much lesser in price. But for the mobility impaired, then this is their only option for them, for now. Thank you for your video. But I'll until i can no longer ride my ebike due age or mobility issues. Happy riding.

How easy is it to remove the batteries? I live in a big city, if I lock the trike outside there’s a good chance the battery would get stolen, so I’d need a model where I could easily remove the battery and take it with me.

I'm exploring e-trikes for a friend. I've got a lot of miles on my non electric bikes and some 500+ on my brand X fat tired ebike. Bearings falling out of wheels and sloppy packing? Well sign me up for a Mooncool though I dislike that name. No parking brake, no problem. A velcro strap has served me well on my recumbent tadpole trike. But I'm not understanding something, why no "speeds"? I understand the inherent stability issues with delta configured trikes and think that speed limiting the trike to 15 is a great idea, but that simple going up the bump into your driveway should not have been an issue. But like many nonpowered riders think, an ebike isn't about pedals and pedaling. Enjoyed your thorough review of the trikes and will look at your other trike reviews. Our needs in the rough roads of the desert is minimum 3" wheel, an easy step through for an old woman, baskets for errands and to carry the 11# dog and a 30 mile range. A unicorn?

Thanks for the comments. I didn't care for the Mooncool name either when I first heard about it. But its grown on me now that we have 3 of their etrikes. As for no speeds, that is down fall not having gears on the TK1. I have discussed that at length with them. Even though most trikes are limited to 15-16mph, they should have a gear set to make pedaling more comfortable at the higher speeds. The Mooncool Fat 20, is a 4" tire and it has a 7 speed gear set. It may be just what your looking for. As for range, it depends on the terrain, weight of the rider etc. But it may get close as long as your not riding at top speeds. Another option is to get a second battery. Addmotor has some trikes with larger batteries that may serve you well also. Sixthreezero has a couple of brand new fat tire trikes, but I don't know much about them yet.

I want to do one, just haven't worked it into the schedule yet. The Addmotor is more powerful and goes 20mph. The mooncool is less powerful and goes 16mph. The addmotor has a bigger battery. The Mooncool has slightly wider tires which I think adds to its stability. Its more stable than the E310. Hope that helps a little until I get a video out.

@@EbikeReviewsThanks! 1. Everyone who comments says a mid-motor is better, but I think they're wrong: mid motors are all single speed, and the power is through the drivetrain, which is definitely going to lead to greater wear and potential failure than a hub drive. 2. Purely in terms of quality/durability:/, which would you choose: Addmotor, Mooncool, or Emojo?

I like the MoonCool and its extra features including the color options. It has everything going for it except support and history. I really looks like they took apart the XP developed by Lectric then built in improvements. Now the ball is in Lectric's hands to upgrade its version 2 trike. I have a Lectric Trike ordered for Christmas. Lectric is one of the online vendors that jumped thru hoops to qualify fheir ebikes for my state's rebate and tax credit program. I could not pass up an $800-$1400 rebate. I liked the Rad trike and accessories but it was not one of the bikes Rad had approved for the rebate. So Lectric it is. I'm looking forward to running errands and using the etrike as an alternate to my car since most of my errand running is within 3 miles of my house. Thanks for the comparison video. I hope Lectric sees it and the next time I'm in the market for a trike there will be even more options.

Thank you for this review! I was sold on the Lectric as soon as you showed the level 1 being regulated, because I'm an old lady who has had both types of stroke, so I like the thought of not having a vehicle take off on me. Having a serious drop foot, the thought of not having to lift it over that extra bar is appealing, too.

Please note Lectric is having financial issues, and also only took 1/3rd of their original order from the factory leaving the factory in distress. Many Chinese factories are closing down in e-bikes. Lectric focuses on putting out super cheap stuff, so there are no margins to reinvest. Moonkool 3” tires will be more comfortable plus the front shocks. Lectric has no dealers but Mookool is going through and recruiting dealers, so local service will be huge benefit of moonkool.
