As an American I have no idea what's going on in any of this, but I love it! Something about the section 1:02:31-1:05:56 I am particularly enamored by, the music, the dancing, the very clear and genuine display of passionate love (there's no way those two aren't a real couple), I have no idea how many times I've watched it.

Right? I wanted to say that this is like The Brigertons Serries 2 or at least Bridget Jones. The thing is that midsummer celebration is about young couples first expressing their love to each other (having met at Spring equinox) before getting married in August / September. It is beautiful really, the celebration of love

Remember, it’s a show, a fairy tale. Romanticising ancient peasant lifestyles. It has it’s roots in 19th century tradition of national romanticism,going to people - time when also Latvian national awareness was created as nation of peasants, still continues today. So this speaks to people, these are well known archetypes, but it’s a romantic image and should be treated as such. We should not judge real live by comparing it to this.

Colton Kid It is symbol of fire in Latvian folklore, more ancient then your called swastika which was used by uncle Adolf, and swastika is bit different lines goes to rigt

+Colton Kid If you used your eyes you would see that it is the reverse of the Swastika. It dates back 1,000's of years and believed to have originated in Sanskrit. The Romans also used it. Do some research.

if YOU did SOME MORE research you would know that the Thunder cross aka Fire cross (the latvian symbol in question) can go both clockwise and counterclockwise. It's a symbol of power and strength and life and it's ultimately the symbol protecting against evil. also this symbol has been around for a VERY long time in pretty much all parts of the world, researchers have even found it featured in cave drawings dating back thousands of years. And it always symbolises good things like life or time or strength. Nazis used it because they saw it as a symbol of power and strength but they used it for evil instead of good which has forever left terrible associations whenever people see it. And it's sad. In latvian culture it's always been a very important symbol and the fact that it was wrongly used isn't gonna change our culture and history. so we don't shy away from it, we keep celebrating the true meaning of it and it's place in our culture
