The thing that alot of the younger generation doesn't seem to realize is that this was MJ every 👏 single 👏 night 👏. No plays off. No rest management. No resting on defense. No backing down. He WAS thee Apex predator of the league! Unrivaled in determination & killer instinct. Motivated to play every game at level orhers just can't reach. Ten scoring titles (NBA record) in an era where physicality was at its highest, 6 Championships (no losses), 5 MVPs, 6 Finals MVPs, a Defensive Player of the Year award which was usually given to the big men of that time and countless other benchmark stats that have yet to be broken. Still the only player in NBA history to win the scoring title, MVP, a Championship, Finals MVP and be named to the All-Defensive 1st team in the same season. He also did it 4 times. Nearly every obscure stat has Jordan's name in it. And all of this was done in the Golden Era of the league, in effectively 14 seasons. Twelve seasons if we only look at his Bulls years. Nearly eleven Bulls years if we take out the majority of his second season that he lost due to a foot injury. That is an insane accumulation of accomplishments and stats in such a relatively average length career. Just imagine the accomplishments and stats he could have accumulated had he played 17, 18, 19 or 20 seasons. Just imagine where he would be sitting on the "all-time" lists. How many more titles and points he would have amassed. Imagine if he doesn't retire for two years in his PRIME or Jerry Krause/Reinsdorf don't kick Phil to the curb, making MJ's decision to retire again that much easier. That Bulls team had the ability to win 8 straight, maybe more. Just imagine how much higher the benchmarks would have been pushed. It's insane to think about. Also, take this into consideration. LeBron passed Kareem in scoring. We know this. Great accomplishment. But that is a longevity stat. Kobe, Karl, LeBron and Kareem all sit above Jordan on the scoring list and they all played 20 seasons or more. All with similar scoring totals (obviously). Now think of this, at 14 seasons, respectively, Jordan was ahead of all 4 of them in points. Jordan was nearly 5000 points ahead of LeBron at that point - not to mention he was ahead of LeBron in every statistical category other than assists at that point as well. But if you do the math, Jordan surpasses Kareem in potentially his 17th season given the averages. Years ahead of LeBron. I mean, simply give Jordan back his second season due to injury and the two seasons he retired in his prime, right there is Kareem passing territory. He also most likely catches and surpasses Stockton for steals leader as well. So when you look at it that way, it becomes quite clear that Jordan's career and potential was on a whole other level. Not knocking LeBron or anyone else. Greats are great, no matter the way we look at it. But one guy simply towered over the rest. Perspective tells us that. Luckily I got to see his career unfold. It was a remarkable time to watch basketball. And that isn't just nostalgia talking either. It is just the way it was. Game in and game out. Jordan simply put, is the GOAT. "You are simply the standard by which basketball excellence is measured." - David Stern

The thing about No. 23 is that every single game was a highlight reel. He was and is the most athletic, skilled, and electric player to have ever put his hand on the ball. One word that sums up Michael Jordan that separates him from any other player is “Determined”. You just can’t teach that.

Not only did they have the best defensive team that season, they also had the greatest front-court ever assembled (Parish, McHale, Bird). And let's not forget - MJ hit'em up for 49 pts. in Game 1. After that game Celtics players said "that won't happen again" per Bill Walton. And after that 63 pointer in Game 2 is when Larry Legend said "that was God disguised as Jordan." Since I've bled purple & gold since Magic's rookie season I despised Eastern Conference squads. And I wasn't a fan of MJ. I thought he was too cocky and played with too much swagger. Today's youngsters have no idea of just how physical it was back then. And the hand-checking made a huge difference. I used to ball all over joints in late 80s and all of 90s in Orange County, CA. I was 5'10 160 lbs. with handles and quickness. There was this cat named Reggie Geary, who played at Univ. of Arizona and I think for the Spurs. I knew him since his Mater Dei High-School days. He was 6'2 about 180 lbs. and had some of the strongest hands I have ever seen. Soon as he put them hands on my waist it impeded my progress. I had to try to go by him before he got close enough to hand-check me. And man, was he physical. Today's ballers have no clue how much harder it was to get buckets back then.

I had nasty paint footwork and a nastier McHale/Kevin Willis jump-hook. It was unguardable. Same thing always happened - after scoring a few buckets down low, defenders would get mad and start getting rough by using both hands or forearms on my waist when I went up for jump-hook. Which would throw me off balance and deter my shot. The most frustrating thing was that the refs wouldn't call a foul.

I knew you were going to respect the game over feelings. Solid Thank you. I defy anyone to look at Jordans jump shot, watch his technique and tell me he's a bad shooter. We can leave out that he shot roughly 50% from mid range while contested. I'm not trying to discredit Curry or any other great 3 point shooters but lets be 100%... If Michael Jordan had chose to be a 3pt shooter he would have been the best in NBA history. No 3pt shooter has everything Jordan has. Curry is missing the athleticism, height and killer mentality. Bird, straight killer, but not the athleticism....Jordan is the only player I've ever seen that could literally choose how he wanted to destroy you. "Ohhh, you wanna say I can't shoot 3's? I can’t speak for all the others my age (late forties) who grew up on Jordan but to all those younger fans who just want to say that the “old heads” just put Jordan as the GOAT because we watched him so he is “our guy”. To that I would say that I grew up on Joe Montana and for the longest time people had him as the GOAT at QB because just like Jordan he was undefeated in the SB but now that I’ve seen Brady, I think a lot of us put Brady as the GOAT. My point is that in both cases we’ve seen the older player AND the newer guy (Like Brady and Lebron) and saw them in context. Just because a lot of us pick MJ isn’t because we are “hating” I’ll also admit though that I used to have no problem with LeBron I just thought not showing up in a Finals his team was favored in sealed the GOAT debate for me because MJ never just totally disappeared in a Finals series in which his team was favored. Recently though, his demanding respect (several times), telling us that we will miss him and calling himself the GOAT, wearing a T-Shirt of his own HS sports illustrated during Wemby’s first exhibition game all reeks of insecurity. Now he is tweeting at the younger crowd and talking stuff.

Jordan was just a different breed - back then and if he played today. Joe Cool is still my GOAT (4 superbowls and never threw an interception in any of them games) but I have zero beef with anyone that perceives Brady as the GOAT. One of the things I despise most about Bron is his insecurity. After his 17th season and winning that bubble chip he was crying for his "damn respect." Does he not see that if hadn't received it by his 17th season, chances are he's never going to attain it?

Athleticism, basketball IQ and skill, the drive and discipline to win, are in my eyes, what make a great basketball player. 2 out of the 3 would do. Jordan is that rarest one that no only had all three in spades, but was always willing to improve if he believed he needed to. When he first entered the league, people were astonished by his athlecticism (he's called Airness for a reason), but there were a few who criticized him as a dunker only, light on mid-range shots. So he went to practice and eventually the mid-range shots became his bread and butter, especially during his 2nd 3-peat. His 3pt percentage is average, but remember in 91-92, game 1 against the Trail Blazers, he sank six three-pointers by the end of the first half, a record at the time. He didn't care too much about 3-pointers, as most dominant players during the 90s were. In an interview, he said to the effect that if he relied too much on the 3-pointers, he'd be sitting along the 3-point line, and would thus negatively impact the rest of his game.

It's not that hard headbanger. Magic is my favorite player all-time and the reason I fell in love with the sport in 1979. But without any hesitation I proclaim MJ to be the GOAT. I was fortunate to have seen him in person a few times and what my eyes saw is like nothing they had seen before or after him. Simply put, he had faster twitching muscles than Bron. Which granted him superior reflexes, hand-eye coordination, raw athleticism, bounce, hang-time, mid-air body control, balance, footwork, quickness, explosiveness, nimbleness, etc. I have also seen Bron in person and it's no hyperbole when I say it's not even close. Bron is a water buffalo compared to MJ's jaguar agility. Another important factor is MJ had superior fundamentals. And most importantly MJ had the maniacal mental of killers in serial. Bron's cerebral is feeble. And that's why he's always been in dire need of a multitude of All-Stars aka super-teams. I'm going to prove to you how infinitely ignorant Bron fans are. I'm sure it was a Bron fan that said Bron has been checked by better defenders. Last time I heard something so idiotic was when Trump said Covid would magically disappear with Summer heat. Do a little homework and check lists of the greatest perimeter defenders all-time. You will see the names of Moncrief, Alvin Robertson, Rodman, Dennis Johnson, Payton, Michael Cooper, Dumars, Pippen-who checked MJ in practice. These were pitbulls aka defensive specialists that guarded perimeters. When MJ would get past them he'd have to contend with some of the greatest rim protectors all-time (Hakeem, David Robinson, Mourning, Mutombo, Ewing, Eaton, Parish, Rollins). I won't even mention the vicious power-forwards in the paint foaming like Cujo waiting to get their rabid paws on intruders. Them common fouls they provided are flagrant fouls now. Speaking of which, today defenders play with no tenacity. And the stout rim protector is as extinct as Woolly Mammoth tusks. Luka even said it's a lot easier to score in NBA than in Europe. And why so many players have said MJ would score 50 ppg in this soft as Monistat cream league.

People who say MJ wasn't a good shooter only look at stats compared to certain others. Yes there are times when he could be a bit hit-and-miss or have a run of misses or start slow, but for the most part he was an amazing shooter, especially when you look at the double and triple teams he faced or the complexity of some of the shots he took. When you look at his 3 point shooting, same scenario, he didn't focus on 3's and took a lot under pressure probably to try and win games. Considering the lack of desire to take 3's, he was a lot better than his stats suggest. This is shown in the years that he did focus a bit more on 3's, where he was in high 30% - low 40% or more. A then record 6 3's in 1 half does not a bad 3-pt shooter make.

My man, I absolutely loved this vid. You were real and appreciated all of it. For me, I'm 43 and have been a basketball fan and have been following it since the late 1980's: the big difference is the defense. There is none now. Check out the Pistons/Celtics games from back then. Blood all over the place. No doubt James has talent, but he couldn't play against the defense back then. Bill Lambeer would murder James as soon as he got near the paint. Love you, man.

He is easily the Goat of the NBA. If he would of skipped college. And not retired when his dad was killed. Hed have the scoring record and 8 straight chips. Dude was Unbelievable and a honor to watch play. Kobe, bird, magic and Kareem. Are also at the top of my all time favoritel list. All were killers on the court as well. Played all out every game. That's what I miss about the NBA. Its not the same. Glad to see the younger generation. Watching greatness on display. Good reaction.

Jordan and Wade are legitimately the two most prolific shot blocking guards in history, so good observation. That said, Jordan has the shot blocking record for most in a season for a shooting guard and is the only 2 time member in NBA history--regardless of position--to record 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. Hakeem and Pippen did that once. Jordan is also the only guard in history that is top 5 in career steal and block average for that position (usually they are good at one or the other). Alvin Robertson might be the only guy better at stealing the ball than Jordan but he didn't sustain that elite level nearly as long as Jordan (alvin was so good at steals he set the NBA record for most steals and highest steal average in a single season at 3.7...to put that in perspective, that would be more than double today's steal leader in a season. He average 3+ spg 5 times in his career.). Also Lebron is 9th in steals, passing hakeem this year. Coincidentally Jordan is 4th all-time (at one point he had the most ever), 400 steals--or 3 more seasons--ahead of James. To continue with Alvin Robertson...he did in 10 seasons what it took lebron 20 seasons to do in total career steals. He also has the highest average in history 2.7 while jordan is 3rd at 2.35. Alvin was not the shot blocker MJ was though. the switch hands layup capped a playoff/finals record 13 straight field goals made by MJ, still a record.

MJ played 82 games a season unless he was BROKEN! The man showed up every night and put on a show. He was met with entire teams trying to defend him or physically stop him. Back in the day, you watched it live and it was breathtaking! You go ahead and talk... it's amazing and I've watched this mix on several channels and it never gets old. Lebron just doesn't have that "it" factor. He wouldn't have made it against half the players back then.

Jordan is considered the best midrange shooter of all time. That's not even remotely controversial. Regarding stats. Actually, cumulative statistics like all-time points say more about logngevity than actual scoring ability. Per game stats are much more accurate to actually provide information about the actual strength of a player in terms of points, assists. and so on. Also in the so-called analytics such as e.g. PER Jordan is practically always in front of Lebron. Watch the Best GOAT comparison next.
