LeBron’s influence, Tatum ‘finally elite’, Can Cooper Flagg be the face of basketball? | THE HERD

Спорт

Cooper Flagg stood out during a Team USA scrimmage, and Danny Parkins and Ric Bucher ask if he can become the next face of USA basketball. Plus, they discuss how the 2024 Team USA stacks up, if LeBron James has too much of an influence on the Lakers, and if Jayson Tatum is finally elite after winning a championship.

If you put all the best current NBA players on the court for a game of 5v5, literally no one is gonna think Tatum is the best player on the court. At no point will he be the best player on the court for Team USA. Stop trying to speak it into existence.

To be clear, Jason Tatum didn't come out and just say "I'm elite." He was asked (and is constantly asked) leading questions by media that purposefully elicited that answer. Using the Top 30 in NBA history as the benchmark, in my opinion, he is easily third-rung elite. But he is SOOO young and still has room to grow, I would love for the media to stop asking him questions that ALWAYS creates a subject of contention. We all know they won't.

I don't know who you would compare him to. He's 6'8-6'9, a really good ball handler, a good outside shooter, a good rebounder, a great shot blocker, and an above average defender. I can't think of anyone quite like him. He played in an AAU tournament and had 70pts/20 rebounds/20 blocks in 2 games against high quality opponents. In the scrimmage he hit two shots over Holiday (not an easy accomplishment), got a tip rebound with a foul, hit a 3pt shot from the corner and dunked after having a shot blocked by AD. He plays like he thinks he belongs in there. Maybe a less aggressive Kevin Garnet? Whoever you think he plays like, he compares favorably. Just needs to put on some muscle and work on some signature moves to compete with equally talented competition in the NBA (because he's not staying in Duke more than a year).

Its crazy that they compared the relationship to media and players to employee amd employer. The media does not control the players and the players are tired of the media controlling the narrative because sports media is constantly painting a toxic picture of the sports landscape. If you dont like it be less biased.

So by their logic its safe to say the only reason this Parkins guy is hosting a whole FOX show is because he is close friends with Nick Wright who is fox's diamond star right now. Lets just call it what it is. Without his relationship to fox's biggest star he would not be hosting this show.
