LeBron James leaving the Heat made a 'dynasty fly out the window' - Pat Riley | SportsCenter Special

Спорт

Miami Heat president Pat Riley joins ESPN's Dan Le Batard to reminisce about the Miami Heat's NBA Championships in 2006, 2012 and 2013. Riley reflects on his frustrations with LeBron James' decision to leave the Heat and return to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014 because Riley expected Miami to be a dynasty with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Right option in need. No such thing as a dynasty after dynasty. People's mental stage change after time. Wade and Bosh just didn't want it that badly anymore, plus wining champions really give you bad cards, bad draft pick, bad cap space, etc. Lakers were able to do a 3-peat because they had arguably the best player at the time and the best shooting guard at the time. But their third champ was still very lucky. And almost 10 years later they can only win 2 in a row. So yes, definitely the right choice.

Gor B Just look at the Warriors 3in5 “dynasty”, everyone’s bodies were literally falling apart after those 5runs in a row. Their bench was made up of cast offs and guys who were already old at the start of the run, and even with resting their stars as much as possible season, injuries still killed a 3-in-row chance. Without 1 1/2 yrs off in the middle for MJ, then adding the greatest rebounder and big defender of that era in Rodman after the ‘95 loss. Those deep Bulls runs starting in ‘90 destroyed everyone’s bodies, and they got super lucky in the draft with a finals rotation player in Kukoc and then with Kerr joining. Those team trainers deserve sooo much credit, especially taking care of Pip’s head and back, and allowing him to stay 1st team All-Defence and an All-NBA team member, every year, they made a ECF or finals run.

Facts, not only he had the guts to return to Cleveland and then return with championships guarantees in mind + fulfilling and all-time promise, but there was no dynasty there at all, by 2014 it was a retirement home run by prime Lebron James, even the role players were old and broke down, let alone Wade and Bosh. Pat Riley is just playing the role and his best interest when talking about Lebron leaving Miami, it makes no sense.

For everyone saying, "Wade and Bosh were done": Yes, that's true. But it's more than that. When you have a special coach in Spo and have a leader like Pat Riley, those guys can put a team together that can make it to the finals. Look at how the heat have ALREADY rebuilt. Not every team does that. Some teams have been "rebuilding" for decades. Bron went to the cavs, didn't even know if he'd win another one and that's exactly what he did is win again. He would've won more rings with the Heat. It would've been a dynasty. With or without Wade and Bosh.

If Lebron hadn't left the Heat would've signed Pau Gasol (he's said he wanted to go to Miami) who signed with the Bulls a day after Lebron returned to Cleveland The Heat would've won in 2015- The Big 3 plus Gasol who had a career year with the Bulls in 2014-15 2016- Cavs beat Warriors, so so would Heat and the Heat would've lost in the finals in 2017 and 2018

Charmers and Rashad lewis who was nowhere to be found in the playoffs? The 2016 and 2017 Cavs would've demolished them. As a 50 year Laker fan and NBA historian, I love Pat Riley. But truthfully, he can thank Greg Popovich for the '13 title. Why? Well, in game 6, less than one minute remaining, Popovich not only removed Tim Duncan twice, HE FAILED TO INTENTIONALLY FOUL PREVENTING ANY POSSIBILITY OF A GAME TYING RAY ALLEN 3. And who should he have fouled? LeBron James! Why? James had just choked 5 of the last six times he touched the ball! But Popovich didn't stop there. In game 7, his idea of defense on James was to let him shoot wide open uncontested jumpers all game long. And this is with K. Leonard on James! Even still, it took a missed point blank layup by Duncan to seal the heat victory.

As a Heat fan, that team wasnt a dynasty. It would've been considered a dynasty if Lebron showed up in 2011.

That’s why he stayed with a trash franchise like the Cavs and even went back to them. If Lebron was drafted to another team, he’d have a better career. Cavs ruined this guys first 6/7 years. Then they traded Kyrie for a bag of chips lol

@ETG _ Maybe 2015, but no way they take 2016. People want to credit injuries for their 2015 chip, but a lot of things went wrong at the wrong time for the warriors in 2016 for them to lose that. They were the best team in the league that yesterday and only the Thunder came close. An aging Wade and even a healthy Chris Bosh would've gotten eaten alive by that team. Especially considering the fact that they didn't have shit for the Spurs and that team smoked them with the style of play the warriors went on to revolutionize.
