Lebbett Drymba and Szilagyi Doromb Unboxing

Музыка

Unboxing my latest purchase from theharpery.com.
A couple of Want-List items:
1. Large Lebett Drymba to complete my set that is offered from The Harpery. I have his smaller version in both a high and low tone.
2. “Black Fire” Doromb made by @AronSzilagyi-doromb. A popular harp that I was waiting The Harpery to get in stock. I had been wanting one after the first time seeing Aron play one and thought it was so cool he makes them himself.

I think I can guess, but why is the Lebbett Drymba your favorite jaw harp? Sweet sound your skill is amazing and 0ur explanations are clear.

Thank you for your continued viewership! I’m glad you enjoy it. It’s fun, so I’m glad people like watching too. As for the reason why I I like the low, small Lebett, well, sweet sound is exactly it. But it is also the perfect flexibility and response. It’s one of the nicest harps to play that I have.

I was looking at some of the indian Morchang on the harpery and thought i wanted one of those but that labett sounds great. I have also been wanting one of your harps. Theres also a copper morchange i want but i make copper bowls and jewelry and know how much work copper is to keep bright and clean so idk if i should get a copper one.

I really like the Lebbetts. They’re pretty loud and have a cool growl to them and they’re reasonably affordable. A little more than some of the standard steel morchangs, but I also have a Rekha morchang from the Harpery and it’s also a great harp. The morchang tend to be higher pitched, FYI, but I know they have some lower tone and bassy ones too. I’ve see that copper one too. I really like copper and tried making some harps out of copper electrical busbar from work. It was hard to work with and did end up tarnishing pretty quick. I agree, probably takes a lot to keep nice and shiny. I will make sure you get one of my harps one of these days. 😎👍🏻

@@BoxcarBetts I'll have to check out the Rekha morchang now. There's so many awesome harps out there it's a little overwhelming to try to pick a first harp. I'm still not sure if I want a higher pitch or lower pitch one. I guess for a first harp it's probably more important to pick a harp that's easy to play. Have you ever tried the bamboo harps? They seem interesting but I'm definitely more into the metal ones.

Really like your style of playing, pretty unique. Ever considered doing some kind of instructional videos?

Yep! Absolutely. I haven’t recorded any yet, but I’m planning on selling my homemade ones soon so I want to have basic tutorials at least for that. And then definitely down the road make some more advanced technique ones. And thank you for the compliments. I think I did develop a unique style of playing and I think it’s because I approach the instrument as a drummer. I’m more focused on using “percussives” and driving the melody as a rhythm, and the quickness is a technique in the wrist used for drumming. Well, not really a technique, just using the wrist moreso than the elbow or shoulder.

@@BoxcarBettsgood to hear, I'll be looking forward to that! Playing that quick still proves rather challenging for me, I'm a more meditative player. But it sounds so good, really enjoy these longer sessions of yours.

There is something to be said about those meditative sessions and slow, steady, playing is actually quite a challenge musically as well! I find myself getting impatient and wanting to speed up, but keeping steady time is a very difficult skill to master.

@@BoxcarBetts well, keeping a rythm is a different story. The jaw harp is the first instrument I've ever played and I'm still lacking the basics. But it's getting better, good feeling to finally start making sound.
