Leaving Bedside? Should you become a Nurse Researcher?

Leaving Bedside? Should you become a Nurse Researcher? My most popular video by far is Why I left Bedside Nursing. I want to keep nurses in the profession and in this "should you become" series, I give more options for nurses besides bedside. There are typically positions available, especially at academic medical centers or Magnet facilities for research nurse scientists. Nurses can also become independent researchers. In this video, I give the top 3 reasons for why you should consider becoming a nurse researcher, some avenues for grant funding and the top 3 challenges I anticipate you may run into.

I used to love researching any, and every thing as a young girl but I also enjoy helping others, be the best of themselves! I know that I wanted to be a nurse growing up but I never knew that I could combine my two loves. Instead of being messy throughout life via blogs and such, let me do something productive that can potentially help heal someone.

Love this, especially that you brought up the bowel management in SCI. I worked in pediatric rehab for 3 years and SCI bowel management was a huge part of my job. I now work in pediatrics critical care and am really thinking about moving into the research role in the next 2-5 years. I love bedside nursing and making a difference in my patients lives but to be able to make a difference in medicine and science as a whole would be absolutely amazing.
