On this week’s episode we headed back to Leavenworth, WA BUT during the fall this time. We stayed at the beautiful Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort and did an e-bike tour with Bavarian E-Bike tours!

Bob and Ted already had the idea of an Alpine village when they traveled from Leavenworth to Solvang. They were in the stages of deciding if they could pull off creating an "Alpine Village" (they didn't want to call it German or Bavarian so soon after WWII) and wanted to learn more from the people who had transformed Solvang. Bob Rogers had been stationed in Germany during the war, and fell in love with the Leavenworth/Lake Wenatchee area in the late 50s because it reminded so much of his time near Bavaria. They purchased a derelict roadside restaurant 15 miles NW of Leavenworth, and soon remodeled it in an Alpine design in the late 1950s. While they would have loved to expand on their presence at the Squirrel Tree, it wasn't in the cards so instead they ventured down the road and presented the idea of business owners in Leavenworth. Had they not taken the trip to Solvang, they might not have had the buy-in from other Leavenworth business owners. Hearing and seeing what the people of Solvang had done gave Leavenworth the motivation to recreate themselves, too.
Everyone there is so welcoming and kind. I miss it so much since we moved away. They treat everyone like family.
I just heard about Leavenworth in a new movie on Netflix. I love cute towns like this, I’ll definitely be checking it out. Thanks for the reviews!

That's where Leavenworth got the idea! I actually drove through Solvang, CA earlier this year and thought "Wait did California copy Leavenworth?"

Thank you! We took Sound Excursions! They aren’t operating in 2022, but their website says they’ll be back in 2023.
