Leave You Grill ALONE | Why You Shouldn't Open The Lid Frequently on Your BBQ Grill

"If You're Looking, You're Not Cooking" Is this a BBQ cooking myth or a true statement. I'm going to test this out by grilling some tri-tip and frequently opening the lid on my Weber kettle. I'll be tracking the results with my Combustion inc predictive thermometer and sharing my opinions on what is actually happening. Does opening the lid too frequently on your BBQ grill ruin the food? Let's find out.

If you're looking... it ain't cooking. But if you ain't looking... it will eventually burn. So all of us mortals, better have a peek once in a while!

Brad Holland, the founder of Holland Grills, is the biggest advocate/promoter of your statement "if your looking, you're not cooking". That statement was on every piece of advertisement they ever produced. I have a Holland grill that is 34+years old. It was the first ever manufactured that does not flare up, you can bake, smoke, grill on the unit and you never get flare ups. You can cook chicken and bacon on them.

Am I right in saying that because of the carry over cook, you meat is actually still cooking/resting about half an hour after you opened the lid? (Assuming the piece of meat is big enough for that half hour)

A normal family bbq has steak, sausages and burgers. I just want to see how you'd do a bbq like that.
