Leatherman Wire Cutters Compared

Joe shows the superiority of the older Leatherman replaceable wire cutters in a demonstration using common coat hanger wire. The new style replaceable cutters, which Leatherman expects customers to buy and replace themselves upon breaking, are vastly inferior to the previous iteration and are looking more like a cash grab than a value add for their customers. Beware.

    Leatherman really needs to do a warranty on these cutters they shouldn’t have been shipped out like this

    I get almost all of my Leatherman tools used, so I didn’t know they redesigned these wire cutters sometime in the last 2 years. This is a problem for every replaceable wire cutter tool they make!

    I have my leatherman core which is an old one without a replaceable wire cutters. After i saw the flaws of arc wire cutters i ce to check my core, there isn't any sign of bad wear out. I used mine quite heavily on house improvements

    Yup that sucks. I guess they redesigned the wire cutters within the last 2 years so now a bunch of models are going to have nerfed cutters 😮‍💨

    Just in case there is anyone left who doesn't know.... Leatherman sell the most expensive multi tools in the world and the cutters are breaking all the time , I was in the process of buying one ..Now I will buy 6 clone multi tools for the price of one leatherman, There greed in charging so much for sub standard tools has lost me as a customer and recommend you do the same until they stop selling rubbish...

    I've watched people try to cut hanger wire with the arc, and it gets stuck or breaks the blade off, 230 dollars for a multi tool, with issues, that goes to show, Leatherman isn't always the best, a multi tool is only as good as the user

    MaxlvlEDC was suspicious that Leatherman redesigned the cutters and then released them without testing them. Nobody has proof of this though. Just speculation.

    @@inkiron3907 Well I see a slight difference in them but one of the more important differences looks like dimensions. I was hoping you you put a cutter from each tool side by side. So we could see the difference. I don't plan on buying an Arc unless everything is worked out. They called them "premium replaceable wire cutters". Since I bought my ST300 in 2011 they have been just that. But people even think the cutters aren't 154CM. Stating that they are called premium stainless. So they must be 420HC. I doubt this. I think it's possibly for legal and marketing reasons. So they don't get sued. I don't consider 420HC a premium stainless. I consider it a budget steel only slightly better than some Chinese alphabet steels and even then those steels seem to have better corrosion resistance. Maybe the heat treat is off too. I'd like to hear what happened from Leatherman directly.

    The "gap" are wire strippers not a fault in the design. You simply put the coat hanger wire in the centre of the cutters and not in the hole. You are simply not using it correctly. This tool has plyers, wire cutters, wire strippers and a crimp tool all in one. You dont know what you are talking about. Edit: spelling

    That gap is a bug not a feature. Im quite a fanboy myself, but that starts to become ridiculous!!! It would be annoying to cut and always haveto find the right position. Check out the leatherman homepage. Nowhere is that gap described as a wire stripper. I had the same issue on my new surge. The surge has designed wire cutter on the can opener. Replaced the cutters, problem solved. Now cuts everything (including coat hangers) smoothly.

  • @mcbrite
    @mcbrite3 ай бұрын

    Sorry, but you proved nothing of the sort... If you placed the wire properly, the new design would have cut it just as easily and you can use the notch to stip insulation and so on... If I had the choice, I'd pick the new one... Also: A multitool is exactly that... So if you cut wire "on the job", you'd OBVIOUSLY have a tool specialized in cutting wires...

    Bruh what? The hole isn’t for stripping wires.. good lord. Plus why should I buy a new pair of cutters when I paid 230 for a tool? If you buy a tool and it can’t function the way it’s designed than it’s faulty. Just like a car, if you buy a new car and something breaks the company does a recall and fixes it.
