Leatherman P2 after a few days. Not as “phenomenal” as I first thought.

Ойын-сауық

So, when I opened the box up and started playing with the P2, I was super excited with all the anticipation and hype.
Then I used the P2 for a few days (pretty hard) and I’m not nearly as impressed.
Here’s why...

    I have the P2 and in hind sight I probably should have waited for the new ARK to be released. The short tools are useless so I removed them and went with the bit exchanger from Zap wizard which work out perfectly. I think Leatherman finally got it right with the new ARK coming out with the tool set. When I was working the trades the Surge was definitely my EDC for work hands down.

    I was pretty excited about these but as soon as I saw one I knew it was a joke. Add to the fact that the implements themselves are lame compared to other LM tools like the Rebar; the polymer bushings in the tool allow too much side to side movement and the handles are not ergonomic. My response to the Free was to replace my Charge TTi with a Victorinox Spirit which is the best multi-tool I’ve ever used in overall terms.

    Well for the price of this (£120 which is $150) I could get a Spirit X with leather pouch - this has a usable file, not comically short like the one on the Free P2, an actual 3D (Wow!) Phillips which won't slip, scissors which actually cut and many more tools like a woodsaw which the P2 doesn't have. It won't rust like Leathermans do either. For the price of the P4 ($190) I can have the Spirit MX with pocket clip and one handed opening blade. No competition.

    The only problems I have had with my Wave, my favorite model, is keeping the knife blades sharp. I have always been good at sharpening knives. I have SEVERAL of your tools, from the first model to the surge. I carry it everywhere, but I can't get it to take an edge. Don't want it shaving sharp, but better than it is. Would like two Full size blades for me, one plain blade, and the other half serrated. Love you products and have had one or two with me since you started making them. I have other brands of this type tool, but don't care for them. Thanks, and I really like the product.

  • @dsimon33871
    @dsimon33871 Жыл бұрын

    leatherman in some particular ways is like gerber: They come up with innovations that are fantastic, but alas... make huge mistakes as well. Leatherman bit kits, the new ratchet and extender piece IMO are outstanding. Between Victorinox's ratchet kit and the new leatherman one has a set that can really tackle sockets, different angles, and take up little room. But in the production of new tools, I see Chinese companies like BiBury making solid products, innovating intelligently, and question what leatherman is doing. The primary problem I see is how the size of the tool, along with the size of the tools in the set, and finally the durability of the tool set, are all separate metrics. This tool is really a medium sized tool that does not appear to be particularly robust. A Spirit or spirit X can be medium sized, but has a lot more robust and better quality set of tools. So why buy something like this? one handed opening?

  • @Mezna539
