Im a trucker and the seals on some of my loads use this type of cable. I keep forgetting to buy dedicated cutters for this kind of cable haha I usually spend about 5 minutes with my leatherman when I need to cut this type of material.. not ideal but it works eventually

А почему Вы решили, что здесь показано непрофессиональное использование? Например, я воспринял этот ролик, как демонстрацию возможности Leatherman. И если нет под рукой профессиональных инструментов, то и с Leatherman есть возможность решить данную задачу, например, укоротить этот тросик. Возможно, я не совсем правильно понял ваш ответ из-за некорректного перевода в Google.

It struggled. Now i wonder would the older model without replaceable cutters do better? Thinking if the attachment of the cutting bits adds just enough that flimsiness.

Your remark is relevant. The old model without removable cable cutter does not work better on this type of cable. Note however that this is an extreme test for which multi-tools are not designed. However, Gerber's Center-Drive manages to cut this cable when it was not broken when trying to cut a nail. The advantage of Leatherman's 154CM steel cable cutter over carbide inserts is that it will not break.

I can pretty much confirm this too, I still have the old style, the original edition, I haven't the heart to send it in for a desperate tune up cause I prefer the look of the old one. But the cutter section is much weaker than this new one appears to be. I manage to cut 2mm ish mild steel rods with it, but this pretty much destroyed it. Cable wouldn't stand a chance.

Thank you for your compliment. These cables are very problematic to cut for multi-tools. Those tools should be able to properly cut through bike brake and speed stranded cables. Come on Leatherman!

No importa, las abrazaderas de herramientas múltiples no están diseñadas para cortar este tipo de cable. Pero la SuperTool 300 corta fácilmente este cable con el cortador de cable ubicado debajo de la abrazadera, entre las dos fundas! :) Ce n'est pas grave, les pinces de multi-tool ne sont pas conçues pour couper ce genre de câble. Mais le SuperTool 300 coupe facilement ce câble avec le coupe-câble situé sous la pince, entre les deux manches ! :) It does not matter, the multi-tool clamps are not designed to cut this kind of cable. But the SuperTool 300 easily cuts this cable with the cable cutter located under the pliers, between the two hands! :)

Si, tienes razón, el cable de acero es mucho, pero yo corto o intente cortar UTP y bridas, pues hago cableado horizontal, y en todos los casos el cable o los hilos de cobre quedan entre la parte de corte trabando la pinza. Las uso para todo y funcionan super, pero en la prueba no pueden con el cable de acero y en caso tampoco pueden con el UTP que son 8 cables de cobre.

Ciertamente. Pero no olvides el cortador de cable ubicado debajo de la abrazadera de la SuperTool 300, es formidable para cables muy duros (cable multicadena, cable de piano) de hasta 2 mm de diámetro. Todas las cortadoras paralelas de cable de mandíbula tienden a separarse cuando están sometidas a una gran fuerza (o no, dependiendo del ajuste de la abrazadera, si hay algún juego), con el objeto que se va a cortar atrapado entre las mandíbulas.

Excellente question ! :) La coupe par cisaillement (mors décalés) demande moins d'effort que la coupe par guillotine (mors alignés).

Not surprising the Charge has difficulty cutting steel braided cable. It lacks the swing of the side cutters. The Charge+ TTI, Charge+, Charge, related models (Wave, Surge) and all the other Leathermans are great tools for "emergency" repairs. However, they are not really intended to take the place of the proper tools on a job site. Not making excuses, but I can't think of a situation where I HAD to cut a bicycle brake or shifting cable (or was/is it a manual choke cable?) like that, and I didn't have a side cutter (or better yet a cable cutter designed for the task) available. You could have cut that cable by moving the LM around the cable 90° or so and making a second cut, by the way. If a slipjoint pliers can cut that cable with two or three cuts, surely a Leatherman with a better/harder cutter and less play at the joint could. I happen to have the same Charge+TTI multi tool. It cuts multi strand and single strand electrical wire, and coat hanger wire without issue.

diezelle57 - I have cut a chain link fence with my Leatherman Surge and Sog power lock. Plus I have seen a guy cut a nail with a Gerber center drive and the cutters broke then he used on that same nail a Leatherman wave. And the Wave cut the nail in half. Gerber cutters are soft, Leatherman cutters are better. I say that again with experience.

diezelle57 -Sorry dude but Gerber multi tools their cutters are soft. That center drive can't cut a nail without breaking the cutters, but yet a Leatherman wave can and Sog can, and Victorinox can. That's tells me they are better than Gerber.

It's not sharp enough to cut material that hard/flexible, but the blades weren't damaged. It didn't fail to cut the 2mm cable either, it just took more effort because it's not the correct tool for the job. It's a multi-tool. It works on stranded copper wire, copper wire, plastic ties, and nails/screws just fine. Don't be an idiot and try to judge a tool on something it wasn't designed to do. If you want a good tool to cut stranded steel cable look at knipex 95 61 190.

Mingology the person demonstrating the leatherman tool is obviously not good with hand tools. Other people with common knowledge of hand tools know that using the first compound action tool is what’s meant for cutting stranded cable. I own just about every leatherman made and their track record for quality is unsurpassed.

No, the only tool when you only have one. In addition, only the Super Tool 300 EOD and MUT EOD correctly cut stranded cable with their pliers.

Primero tenes que saber que ese es un alambre trenzado y acerado, estarías dañando las mordazas de tu leatherman segundo seria mejor que uses primero la sierra o lima de metal en el alambre y después tuerces a los lados con el alicate, por otro lado para eso está la tenaza que usaste al principio .

This is a poor demonstration of a leatherman tool as obviously a compound action cuttter as you used to cut a multi strand cable is always best. The leathermans are for copper and/or mild steel solid wire.

You do not know anything about it. The Leatherman MUT EOD and Super Tool EOD cut very well the stranded cables. And then, learn to read, the title of the video is very clear.
