Leatherette Engraving Settings for Thunder Nova 35
Ғылым және технология
Laserable leatherette is a fantastic material to laser engrave on. We use our CO2 Thunder Laser Nova 35 / 80W machine to engrave and cut this sheet of laser-safe leather. We are making a custom patch for cap. This gives the look of a leather sewn-on patch without it being sewn on. This sheet can be found at JDS Industries.

Thanks for the video. I have a thunder nova 35 100 watt. What do you think I should adjust my settings to as a start vs for the 80 watt in your demo?

Appreciate the comment. For your 100W machine, a starting point for engraving leatherette should be about 400/12. It's not going to be that far off from what ours is. Basically, you just need to lower your power by about 20%. Give that a try for engraving. By the way, this is just for the leatherette that engraves to black. The others that engrave to silver or gold....they are a little tricky.
Hi Jay! First, let me say that I went to your website and viewed your galleries. You are very talented! Your pictures are amazing! I, too, am a photographer. So, I know talent when I see it!! I also have a Nova 35/80 laser that I am in the process of setting up. I would be very interested in knowing more about the leather material that you used in this video and where I might source it. Also , I'm interested in the hat press you are using. As I am just getting started, any help you can share will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Hey thanks Mike! Appreciate the compliments. The material comes from JDS Industries. They have lots of great stuff. And the cap press was ordered from Walmart of all places! It’s not the best machine, but for the price, it has done us well!

Just curious why you don't use air assist during the engrave?
@malonecustomdesigns
Жыл бұрын
Hey C.J. We normally only use air during cutting. It gives us a cleaner engraving without it. Well....let me make it clear, when you tell Lightburn to turn air off, you are getting low air. We have just a tiny whisp of air to keep the lens clear. But usually, the "high air" is just used for cutting.

@@malonecustomdesigns that makes sense. I just got my Nova 35 and am trying to get up and running with it. Like you, I’m also coming from GF. I appreciate all your videos, they’ve helped tremendously.
Just out of curiosity, whats the total tine on that from start to finish on the engrave and cut?

Have you ever had a peeling off issue with these? I have just started to do these but if I pull on the patch it comes off. Any tips? Using a Hottronix 360iq hat press. Maybe not letting it cool enough. 285 for 15 seconds

Whenever we press one....we set it aside for 24 hours before giving it to a customer. We made a mistake early on and pressed that morning and gave it to the customer. The customer put the cap on, worked, and sweated in it all day. He also left a backup on his dash...in the sun. Both of those patches came off. Since we've started waiting...we've not had any issues.
