I believe you can also polish the reverse side of shell cordovan using the product called “tokonole” and a canvas cloth. I have seen two or three makers use this product in their reversed shell panels and it comes out really incredible and takes very little time. This could be a good alternative for those wanting to glaze their reversed shell goodies without having to apply multiple layers of water.

At the end the part you polished with water looks a lot different in color. More of an olive green than spring green. Is that still wet or did the color stay that way?

In the video the leather is still wet but the reverse black shell (green color) will darken a significant amount. Also, it turns a bit more brown in addition to becoming a darker forest green color

Sadly, I don't have any of these readily available. The leather is reverse black shell cordovan. I can get something made for you if you can send an email. info@ashlandleather.com - make sure to reference "reverse black shell cordovan. As green as possible to match the video" and I can make it happen

I don't think you quite understand what's happening although you're on the right track. Yes its filling in the grain as I'm about to explain but its actually polishing the wax, not the leather. Ok so the water is merely acting as a lubricant. The friction with the back of the spoon is raising the temperature and melting the wax in the leather, the movement is spreading it and the smoothness and hardness of the metal is polishing it. Polishing what? The wax. Like a clear coat. You could do this without water and it would be quicker but your effect could become patchy because it is difficult to apply perfectly even speed, pressure and spread and also because you might have local hot spots. The Safir cream on the other hand is adding wax in a readily absorbed emulsion. The emulsion sinks in and plumps the leather fibres, the wax sits on top so now all your spoon is doing is spreading and polishing. Polishing what? The wax. But this time it doesn't have to melt it first. This is how mirror finish is achieved on formal shoes and military parade boots.
