Hunky Dory is one of the most interesting records ever. It’s got such huge, eclectic themes in it. More than you’d expect in a 70’s folk rock album.

Nice Video! It inspired me to do my own list. I tried, but it is a hard decision and I don't count Labyrinth (not enough stuff from Bowie on it to be an LP, its more an EP) 27. David Bowie (1967) 26. Never Let Me Down 25. Tonight 24. Black Tie White Noise 23. Hours 22. David Bowie (1969) 21. Tin Machine II 20. Earthling 19. Pin Ups 18. Let’s Dance 17. Reality 16. Heathen 15. Buddha Of Suburbia 14. Blackstar 13. Tin Machine I 12. Outside 11. Young Americans 10. Diamond Dogs 9. Aladdin Sane 8. Hunky Dory 7. The Man Who Sold The Earth 6. Lodger (From now on, they all could by my number 1!) 5. Low 4. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) 3. The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars 2. “Heroes” 1. STATIONTOSTATION

Hi James, thanks for doing this, really enjoyed your list. I'm still to hear most of these albums but of what I know/have here is my list: 13. Young Americans 12. Space Oddity 11. Alladin Sane 10. Lets Dance 9. The Next Day 8. Scary Monsters 7. Hunky Dory 6. Ziggy Stardust 5. Heroes 4. Diamond Dogs 3. Lodger 2. Low 1. Station To Station Little bit different, as you can see I prefer the Berlin period of 1976-79 more than his glam years, was quite disappointed in Aladin Sane for me some great songs but a lot of filler personally. The Next Day was a big surprise but I'm still to get Blackstar. Thanks

It’s no masterpiece but I love Let’s Dance. It’s a great time capsule and you can tell that many semi-recent dance/punk/rock bands (i.e. older Panic at the Disco, Head Automatica) took a lot of questions from it. The album serves as a great example of an artist successfully making a big, blockbuster album. Glad to see it so high in your list.

"never let me down" had some good songs but the production ruined it as the 2018 remix/remake i think is a vast improvement as i feel like the songs are more direct and to the point and has a better sound and production. the first album has some gems but also some spotty songs w/ some gems such as "when i'm five" and "the london boys". the tin machine albums grew on me as i feel like there's a lot of underrated songs on that album. when it comes to the top 5-10 albums, i will admit it changes every now and then because i can love one of those albums that day but would want to listen to another album on that day and say that is my favorite album. anything bowie did from 1969 to 1983 is pretty much the golden period as you're not going to find a lot of faults on any those albums. the stuff bowie did from "black tie white noise" to "earthling" i would say is kind of the second golden period though i do like "hours" although i feel it's a step down of sorts from previous albums. then the stuff from "heathen" and afterwards i feel is like the final home stretch and * becomes this great and final artistic statement as well as a great way to end a career. he is my all-time favorite singer/artist as i grew up on his music as i was dancing to "let's dance" while i was in diapers.

Great video. I also enjoyed "Never Let Me Down". I wish "Loving The Alien" was on that album instead of "Tonight". I enjoyed "Earthling" & "Hours". Yeah people slept on "Black Tie, White Noise". The Japanese version of "Ziggy Stardust" has the bonus tracks "John I'm Only Dancing", "Velvet Goldmine" & "Sweet Head". I used to work at Tower Records in the 90's and I always thought those bonus tracks was part of the album. Oh well, take care.

I would have ranked StationtoStation higher because this is the time, both junkies Bowie and Iggy had the courage for a New Career in a New Town (yes I know it's on LOW) and "Heroes" well, masterpiece bzzz bzzz bzzz !!!! So, my top three. I love new wave more than anything else. Cheers !

Don't think your comments convince me you've actually listened to half of them mate. I understand it's all personal choice but you have chosen a very safe route and don't really mention any of the less known gems. Anyone 'growing up with Bowie' as you say you did probably never played a greatest hits album in their life even though they may well own them. IMHO you've cheated yourself ..... go listen to them all again, do not pass go, do not collect £200 ;)

What you don't understand is that "weird" was right in Bowie's wheelhouse. He never did the same thing twice, which is what made him so great. I like your top five though, but with one exception, i.e., Hunky Dory #2, are you high? Mike Garson's piano playing is part of what makes Aladdin Sane so good. But I would put Station to Station, Scary Monsters, or Lodger in the top five instead. Lodger is admittedly a sleeper album, and often overlooked, but still a great one. But otherwise, 👍

A little pinickity I know but, your title doesn't make grammatical sense. Lol. (like I said its nit picky). Least and Best are not opposite to each other. Least is a quantity and best is a quality standard. But, obviously everyone understands. I've gone too far..... Erm....i don't know why I did this now. Ha ha, sorry. Anyway,I like your vid. It's the first vid I've watched of yours and I'm trying to get into and get what the fuss is about with Bowie. I'm a HUGE BEATLES fan and have very recently HEAVILY got into Jimi Hendrix. Thank you so much for this...erm... Least to Best Bowie albums review, LOL. Genuinely, it's helped me to know where to start and what to get and go for. I tried Ziggy and just didn't get it but its time for a another try. Thanks very much. As Ever Peace ✌ And Love ❤. P.S. I also love McCartney and am now certainly going to check out your video on his stuff.

Yes James :) Mattis100 (comment below) is right. :) :) :) Where is "The Buddha of Suburbia" (1993) ? Well, the only official LP version from 1993 is brazilian but still... (new nice cover since 2007 reissue). Bowie considered it as an regular album but its distribution and promotion were as bad as the success of the BBC telefilm of the same name. I do not even have a CD version (1993 or 2007). Haha :) Great rank. I'm not always agree but it's normal. :) Have a good evening Sir.

You know Bowie's output obviously, but ...have you even listened to "Blackstar"? "It invites you in, and you really just want to stay there"; and "it's a great time from start to finish"? This is a man on his deathbed, and he is not going out in a peaceful fashion.

Brogan Schwarz, bands/artists I enjoy and their best eras: Brian Eno (1973 - 1975) Roxy Music (1972 - 1976) Sparks (1972 - 1976) Genesis (1972 - 1977) Kevin Ayers (1970 - 1975) Supertramp (1970 - 1979) Pink Floyd (They had alot of eras, but I prefer the late 60s to early 70s, i.e 1968 - 1973) Manfred Mann's Earth Band (1973 - 1979) Funkadelic (Haven't listened to all their albums, but a really great band if you like a mix of funk and psychedelic rock. Their best albums that I have listened to are Maggot Brain, Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On and Cosmic Slop.) Bob Marley (Great if you like grooving reggae, I would recommend the two live albums Live! (1975) and Babylon By Bus (1978) I am quite a fanatic of 1970s art rock/progressive rock/avant garde, as you may see. Other artists I would recommend are Kate Bush, King Crimson and The Who! //Cheers

David bowie lp on deram originally cannot be classed as bowie does rock n roll...you are so wide of the mark...it's got snatches of psychedelia...touch of syd Barrett pink Floyd era..it has a nod to music hall with his love of tommy steele..Charlie drake....Anthony newley...it came out the same day as sergeant pepper in 1967 and has the same mix of music hall influences...and first person narrative driven songs .but it is NOT bowie doing rock n roll and he says so himself..please please please it is not enough to say to every album ...yeah it's a good album...it's a good track...it's a fantastic song...that does not constitute a review...you need to delve further ....oh by the way station to station has six tracks....stay hungry...

wow James, monumental task you've taken on there, what a challenge. It's very difficult to compare periods on Bowie albums, not sure I'd be up to this task. Well done though and hard to find too much fault on your opinion vs. mine really. I've said the past 4-5 years that Hunky Dory is my all time favorite Bowie album and I think I'd stand by that, but you put it right up there, so really no matter what so ever. Very interchangeable on the entire top 10-12 frankly, depending on one's mood and what strikes you at the time. Bowie is such a legend and it was fun to watch the countdown of your favorites as of this moment anyway. Thanks for sharing and will there ever be another quite like David Bowie? I mean haha, easy answer there, no chance. Take care James

Hi - a long time viewer here: great list, lots I concur with. Obviously the 70s stuff is incredible and quite rightly near the top. I'd probably have Blackstar right up there too, just because of the monumental achievement of it from a quality standpoint and what it now represents. Enjoyable video as ever. Perhaps you could give my channel a visit? Beatles focus at the moment but I intend to spread my wings in time!
