Leash basics and place command with Olive!
She’s a clingy, anxious girl and wasn’t used to being on a leash. We’ve been teaching her to come towards leash pressure and how to respond to basic commands using leash guidance, body language, and rewards. Understanding this new form of communication will help reduce confusion and anxiety. Instead of becoming overwhelmed with too many choices, we can simplify her options and shift her focus to following directions instead.
If she’s nervous, she becomes wound-up and frantic with her movement which only adds to her anxiety and has led to unsafe choices. By teaching her “place” and calming her body, her mind is also able to relax and unwind. Applying this skill on a daily basis is helping to build her confidence and coping skills so she can make safer choices.
