Learning to Shoot @ my FIRST Class with Glock 19 Shooting Steel

Filmed on March 17, 2012. This was my very first class. I was learning to hold a pistol properly, aim, & draw from a holster.

This was my first shooting class, I didn't know how to properly hold a pistol, or how to aim, or how to draw from a holster. This video was taken at the end of the class, when I was practicing those 3 things. The Sig videos are filmed 6 months later, so that's why it seems like I have better control with the Sig. I've had 6 months to practice shooting since then. :)

@pcproff this Glock was a rental. To be honest I don't remember a difference in the "feel" of the draw. Once you draw a gun a few times, you adapt to it, & it feels natural across all the platforms. If you are talking about the actual ergonomics of holding/gripping the actual handle I say the Sig feels a thousand times better than a -stock- Glock. The only Glock I'm interested in shooting is a custom Taran Tactical Innovations Glock. TTI shaves down the handle/grip so it's super ergonomic.

Amazing to watch your later videos, and to see how quickly you have developed your skills, from only a short while ago. You're a good representative for the sport. :-)

I think it’s funny how people look at this and give you pointers in the coms, nothing can get in the way of dedication and the pursuit of excellence.

this being some time ago, i'm sure that you've fixed it but watch your trigger finger on the draw, right away you're pushing it into the trigger guard and on the exit from the holster that can cause your finger to slam against the trigger and cause a discharge, i have seen it happen a few times, just figured i'd give a friendly pointer

Thanks for letting me know. My club has some stupid rules for shooting at steel. Especially when it comes to distance and caliber. I don’t always follow them. If I ever get called out, I want to know I have a leg to stand on.

You're dealing with the best defense the Glock 19 pistol in my opinion well.

@Jessica Hook Your first time drawing and lining up your targets? Your stance, mannerisms, and general handling looked comfortable and experienced, so what if it wasn't combat speed- it will get better. I'm surprised how many people that have been shooting for 6 months still feel and look very awkward. I got into shooting 3 years ago and love it

Yes it is a great pistol for beginners and experienced shooters. Very accurate, manageable recoil and flawless reliability.

DeltaBravoTango69 Sir, another question I have is how can I learn to handle the recoil of bigger caliber pistols?

My recommendation is if you have the need to move up to a higher caliber pistol, then move up to an AR-15. There's nothing that two rounds of 9mm in the face couldn't handle. The ability to accurately put multiple rounds downrange at your treat trumps the need for a higher caliber pistol. Given that, if you're still insisting on managing recoil for higher caliber pistols, then build up your grip strength by doing kettlebell walks with your trigger finger straight (using your other three fingers and thumb). Then make sure you're using a high grip with proper support hand placement.

I am considering a Glock 19 for my wife and she has small but not tiny hands. Can I ask what was your feelings about the grips? She has trouble handling my full sized XD45 but can shoot it reasonably well but I would rather her have her own that fits her well but she doesn't want a mouse gun. Keep up the good work! Thank you!

+Rob Sgt.Airborne Hi Rob, what will the gun be primarily used for? Competition? Everyday conceal carry? or stored in the house for self-protection, only trained with once in a while?
