Learning to Fly in a Luscombe | 01

Ғылым және технология

In this video series, I show the entire process of learning to fly in an old taildragger. By the end, I will have my private pilot's certificate, commonly just called a license. It was a big challenge, but I stuck with it and completed the training.
I began my private pilot training in November of 2019.

Jay- I'm in the process of buying an experimental aircraft and was hoping to learn to fly in it. But the aviation insurance companies told me I need 200 hrs and a private pilot license for them to insure my airplane. Maybe this is an issue with Experimental aircraft....who insured you airplane during the training? Was there any issues getting this insurance?

Wings Insurance (a broker) got me covered right off the bat, but at least initially I had to have an instructor with me in the plane, of course. Even with only 60 hours or so (after getting my private), I was still insured (flying alone). My rate has gone down as I've gotten more hours, even as I've increased the value of my Luscombe by making improvements to it. So, it seems doable. I'd give Wings Insurance a call if I were you. As you said, though, maybe an experimental is different. That's quite possible. Let us know how it goes.

I've heard the Luscombe is tricky, but I don't know. Hopefully, I'll have the chance to fly some other tail draggers in the coming years.

I would advise you to focus on learning to fly safely, not on making KZread videos. If I were that instructor you wouldn’t have a camera in there! If you don’t get it .., well, you should find another “hobby”
