Learning Spanish: Reported Speech in Present II - Questions & Orders (beginners).
In the previous video I analysed the changes in reported speech (when we transmit previously spoken words) in Spanish in present in sentences that transmit information: • Learning Spanish: Repo...
And in this video I am going to explain the changes in present in questions, and in orders, requests and advice.
If the question is introduced by a question word (qué, quién, cuál, dónde, cuándo, cómo, por qué or cuánto), to transform them into reported speech, we put first the verb preguntar followed by the conjunction 'que' and then the question word plus the rest of the question (with all the necessary changes).
Mary: "¿Dónde está la Sagrada Familia?" - Mary pregunta que dónde está la Sagrada Familia.
But if it is a question without a question word, we put the verb preguntar followed by the conjunction 'si' and then the question.
El camarero: "¿Queréis más café?" - El camarero pregunta si queremos más café.
With orders, requests and advice, in addition to all the changes we have seen so far, there is a transformation of the verb tense: the imperative changes to the present subjunctive.
La profesora: “Estudia más”- La profesora dice que estudie más.
