@@aynonymos It takes a minute but the grammar is basically just changing SVO to OSV and a couple punctuation quirks. Honestly the bards layer got my hopes up for more interesting languages later but then it was right back to just being "match the vocabulary". I still really enjoyed the game but was a little disappointed in that regard.

@@boyo7918 True, though it does make a lot of sense why they didn't. The Alchemist's section was slightly less on language and more traditional puzzle solving and the Exiled's section was very lore heavy. Adding another sentence structure would have just muddied those. But honestly, stretching the segments out to allow for new structure would be worth it. Imagine if the Alchemists get rid of unnecessary words for efficiency and the Exiles are missing a core concept we have, like individuality as they see everyone as part of the same over-being leading to "I" and "You" being missing?

The editors do an amazing job with the editing and the pop up text next to the face cam always gets a laugh out of me

There's another game a lot like this called Heavens Vault. It's story driven with lots of narration in regular language. You are an archeologist in a future nebula that travels between moons and ruins via a cosmic river that you navigate on. You find tons of lost history and slowly decipher the language. Very Treasure Planet esque, with less monsters and more robots.

The words do get confirmed. You just have to find the same word several times and have it make sense (then it gets checked off and can't be changed) instead of having it given to you after having all the correct words on a page. The real difference is heavens gate giving you 4 likely words to choose from and no picture where this game gives you a picture or action with no multiple choice. Heavens gate also gives you some hints by talking to Huang and he'll make comments while also telling you about incorrect interpretations you've made for words. Both games do it well

another suggestion i have is Tunic, it's a more souls/zeldalike with combat and stuff but there's a whole in-game manual with a different writing system! i may have spent at least a few months obsessing and writing in that system lol

Next episode: Tyler learns Mandarin on stream for 12 hours by watching movies and treating subtitles like puzzles.

Back at it again, the first part of this game was amazing, so happy another episode came out so soon!

Dont forget to finish the scrap book. Youll need the translations for the fast travel dialogues. Also the new area was the hardest for me

I think all players missed that one page in the Fortress because they didnt click on the Symbols in the Torch light Area after placing the torch down.

Watching Tyler get so close yet so far to a lot of these translations is really infuriating (and also really fun to watch).

Everything here was phenomenal... from the game, to tyler's charm and personality, to the editing... 10/10 video, thoroughly enjoied it.

I appreciate how the editors always add in notes in case someone watches a video in a series without having seen the previous ones!

As a reward for such a masterpiece you should let your editors see a sliver of sunlight

I watched the first video and played the whole game in one sitting immediately after, full 100%. As a language geek I had to, and the puzzles were so good. It's probably already complete by now but the bards language reallllly gave me a run for my money at first due to the sentence structure.

Lmao same. I ended up getting the bellman's glyphs by matching the glyph to what object it looked like (which is basically what they are) and was left confused when I got to the next layer with a whole area unsolved and a third of the glyphs unverified.

if you like this kind of language mechanic, you should check out "Heaven's Vault". only has one language but it is much more rewarding.

I finally made it in the first hour! I've been watch your videos for years, and I just wanted to say that you've got one of the best channels on KZread, and I really appreciate how much effort you put into making your content even better!

I'm very glad I didn't watch him play through this and instead finished the game blind myself. Its so much fun to watch someone else struggle in different ways I had not or succeed where I did not.

For anyone wondering the thumbnail translates to "Impure duties". (The "plural" is sideways for some reason)

Actually, since the plural is in front of 'impure', I think it's 'impures' duty' as in 'the duty of the impure ones' which is a really concerning phrase.

So glad you're playing this game. I absolutely loved it. Its nice to see how other people figure out the words and what their guesses are like.

I played this game after your last episode and it’s so DAMN GOOD. I hope they make a DLC with more languages or expanding on the current languages, or with more translation sections at some point.

i finished it since the last episode came out. fantastic game with a fantastic and very satisfying ending. of course it's painful seeing you miss the things i've found but i'll give you that i didn't find the torch to decipher boat/key/balance (instrument is trivial) until after i had brute-forced it on the bells. I assume you're recording all of these in a row and you're alreeady done with the game but on the offchance not: good luck, the next area is the hardest.

Hell yeah, i was waiting for the part two!!! Always excited to see new videos.

I have played this entire game, I vaguely remember what the words mean. But I'm gonna watch this entire series anyway, because I like to see the thought process behind things. Your videos will be good for that, since you tend to vocalise your thoughts pretty well and consistently.

This series rocks. I hope later on that you have to use the shapes of the words a bit more, it was needed some in the first area but it was only something you noticed afterwards in this level. That’s something I enjoy about constricted languages.

I had a ton of trouble specifically with translating between the warriors and researchers since it took forever to find the warrior glyph for scientist in a different context. Was the last one I translated.

Awesome video, the montage is as always really dynamic it s so cool to watch

Dude after watching the first episode I immediately decided to buy the game and spent my whole Saturday playing it to full completion, incredible game can't recommend highly enough

I’m surprised how long it took him to realise the character meant plural, I got it instantly while struggling with most of the other puzzles

I can definitely see this being a nice 6 part series. Also, the 3rd language is quite hard. I did manage to 100% the game and I can't wait until you finish it too.

2 episode lesgoooo. Ngl this is the most hyped i have ever been for a series

I like how carry and lay are almost mirror images, but since carry has the vertical line, they can’t be confused for each other, like if a warrior were dyslexic. Also, notice that their locations - library, fortress - are triangles. Arrive, as a verb, has the angle on the bottom, but being an upside down triangle, it suggests a relation to location.

As always, the editors do an amazing job here. I played through the game after your first video was released, and while I liked the game I had some issues with it. The editors fixed them all, by trimming the boring and/or frustrating stealth/backtracking portions, and actually highlighting the player character on entry to a room when it's otherwise unclear where you are.

For whatever reason, I never thought to get the item that allows you to view the telescope. So trying to solve that page with the constellations was needlessly hard for me, I legit just had to guess that one. Guess I learned that the hard way while watching this video 😂

from playing the demo it seemed like those fast travel points have some more stuff in its UI, like a puzzle in one of the tabs, idk if you've seen it or just missed it, but i think they migh do more than purely fast travel

Let’s gooo! I loved this game kn the first video, thank you for making it into a series

oooooooohhhh, thats what the basement is for and how you use the telescope! I was like "but that's the lens that I had on the first layer?", and never connected it with the treasure down below! I thought that was a puzzle I'd come back to, loading up the ship, and was confused when you never did go back to it. Since to open the basement, you need to shine the light on the scale/key/etc. already, I didn't need the telescope at all, and left without ever knowing I'd missed anything.

Funny fact: if you’ve learned the word that Tyler has down as arrive the top left bell instruction says call of duty
