How can they even study in such a loud environment? Is this normal or encouraged?

This is the traditional way of learning the Torah.

Because they are in a sort of small group debate, the goal isn't necessarily to win, but not be wrong. You gotta pay attention or you slip up, and a slip up here translates into sin when you put such a mistake into practice.

They brought this study habit to the secular academic world, and that's why they're very successful.

Tu as raison. Einstein a dit qu'il a apprit de son peuple l'amour de la vérité . La religion est le fondement des civilisations. Il donne l'espoir dans les fondements de la société . Sans la religion même les sceptiques ne peuvent jamais exister.

they study the Talmud (Gemara in aramic) it's discussion about the Tora and the Oral Tora, which is the Explanation of the Tora, in the center of the page is the law itself and around are the arguments about from generation to generation and, they study and argue about it, this is what is called, studing the Tora, this is the eternal dialouge that Jews have with god, this is a living on going dialouge. The Oral Tora was given to Moses at mount sinai together with the tora and it's passed on from generation to generation Oraly, until their was a need to write it, when the Second Temple got destroyed so we saved the Tora in to the Mishna and from it we interpert and this is the Talmud.

The purpose of these schools is to learn the Torah, not to learn a trade. People can learn a trade in College or go on to University to learn a profession after they finish learning in Yeshiva.

They are not tails. Those fringes are called Tzitzityot and they are worn to remind ourselves of the mitzvot(commandments) of the Torah

I think Jews have managed to survive as a people for over 3000 years, despite persecution, precisely *because* they have so many peculiar customs and rules that set them apart from the rest of the nations. So things that seem strange or even a bit funny to us, like the kippot, tzitzityot, sheitels, kashrut laws, etc, are the reason Jews have managed to cohere as a people despite being scattered all over the planet since 66 AD.
