Learning How To HARDFLIP at Age 33!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ever since I had back to back knee injuries about ten years ago, I have always had a mental block with learning regular flip tricks. Since being sober and focusing on my health, my body feels better than ever and today I decided to learn a trick that I have always wanted to learn, the hardflip. If you guys have any tips on how to hardflip feel free to leave them in the comments below.

back foot in the opposite pocket and still scoop for a hardflip. front foot out of the way, has a lot to do with back foot pop

if you can frontside flip like muska did they become easier all u gotta do is not turn, also I don't know why but i learned them switch first for some reason the body stay aligned over the board more naturally if i remember right with my front foot i control the board with my big toe

i think about opening up my shoulders when i pop the trick easy and then quickly square them back to catch the board straighter and more consistent

The more higher up you put your foot is how you make it more vertical I tend to put it in between the middle and lower part of the board and as my back foot I don’t really scoop I press in this certain spot just next to the pocket and it does the scoop for me all I need to worry about is the flick

The way I learned to flip hard flips is to basically write an upside down "J" with your front foot while half popping a front shove. I used that reference when I did skateboard instruction at camp woodward and all my campers got it fairly quick

  • @tracehouston3727

    @tracehouston3727

@Lelo so youre using the nose to guide the flip by starting with the initial upside down J (more like ſ if youre goofy), then putting more pop than scoop into your front shuv.

I'm still getting used to the shape and the shorter wheelbase as compared to a park or pool board but my confidence is building everyday! It's never too late to start again! Having great core balance and being in shape doesn't hurt either! Shredd On!

Hey dude this is incredibly inspiring. At first simply because the amount of control with grinds and slides that you have along with the age factor. When you mentioned your torn ACL I instantly connected with you. I tore my ACL about 5 years ago and that sort of led to my decline of skateboarding. Every trick I do feels like I’m protecting my leg first rather than committing. Recently I’ve been doing A LOT of stretching and very lightweight strengthening exercises and have experienced a massive increase in my knee’s reliability. I’ve started skating again and people don’t believe that I stopped skating since I didn’t lose much style. I really hope I can keep making it stronger to be able to relearn some more advanced tricks. Right now it’s all about stylish/effortless basic tricks. Since I feel safe and confident. Thanks for showing me that I’m not the only one out here hustling with this injury and no surgery.

Watching your videos to learn how to axle stall at this park and then seeing that you go to this skatepark is super trippy. I had no idea

It's so refreshing to see and advanced skater like yourself struggling wiht something a little. I liked the first land much better and the vertical rotation looks a million times better than the actual FS rotation. I have 10 years on you but also I, the worst skater in the world, will give these a try! Awesome personality too man, love your videos!

Just stumbled onto your channel. I am 34 and still getting in some fun sessions every now and again. Sometimes it feels like I am just relearning tricks... probably due to the inconsistency of said sessions. You got a new sub though!

Dude props! I don't really skate anymore, I'm 34 and I also tore my left ACL still skated and snowboarded for 4 years and played hard. It wasn't till I tore my mcl at a skate park and couldn't walk on it. I got surgery and after about a year it felt normal and strong again. Then I had my other knee blow apart the next summer acl, mcl, meniscus. So after 2 full knee reconstructions and both ACL replacements I just don't really skate much. But you've inspired me and you're right, that mental block is the biggest most difficult thing to get past. I always feel like my new ACLs are these fragile little strings in my mind when though that's not the case. Keep up the hard work thanks for this video!

I like how you vocalize every attempt. I have the same thing. Just can't keep silent when working out. Btw, I'm also 33 and only learning to ollie now. Feels like a new world since I discovered skateboarding for me 3 years ago.

I haven’t skated in about 5 yrs, and had the same exact mental blocks as you for the longest time. What eventually helped start landing them was the emphasis of the flick on the front foot. You essentially have to mob flip it to get the leg outta the way. But I would literally put my front foot a little further back and would go even further than a mob flip.I would literally flip less than 90 degrees; more like flip at a 50-60 degree angle. This will help speed up both rotations of the board. Also I agree that the nose tip is better for them. Awesome video as always man 👌👍

And now, as a result of doing these all day, you'll have the muscle memory developed in a couple days to flip these faster and catch em with ease. Props and cheers~

I used to think of them as kickflip shifty but at the last second rotate my body back. Helped me to see the flick. Then eventually I could keep my shoulders straight.

Good job! I try to do a hard flip once in a blue moon, by this I mean, I've never done one. I don't think I'll get one in this lifetime, because I'm too busy enjoying just rolling. I dig your attitude!
