Learning German at a German School

Ойын-сауық

When I first moved to Germany I thought it would be a good idea to learn the language.. little did I know the class would be taught entirely in German. Here's a 'lil animation about my experience at the school 0:

Current number of "just say fester Freund/Kumpel/ein Freund von mir" comments: *284* EDIT (4 years later): i stopped counting these but theyre definitely in the thousands at this point LOL guys nobody talks like this 😭😭"kumpel"/"ein freund von mir" are definitely used but just "freund(in)" is still way more common, and legit NOBODY says "fester freund(in)" cause it sounds dumb as hell lmaooo (the most common replacement for boy/girlfriend i've heard is "partner") - either way none of this changes the fact that 99% of german speakers still frequently use the word "freund(in)" in both contexts and commenting telling one british guy to use a different word is probably not gonna change that they will continue to use it and continue to confuse non-native speakers and germans alike, any time soon :')

This is so interesting! I wish you'd made more videos about your language learning experience. Btw I've always been annoyed that we don't have separate terms for boyfriend and girlfriend, it often makes conversations needlessly confusing. My friends and I have started calling boyfriend "Freund-Freund" as opposed to platonic friend (Freund).

Hello! I live in Germany and I am also German (and that is why I only put this text into the translator). I am sorry 😐. I think it's really cool that some people who speak English dare to come to Germany. I mean...German is not so easy! Why is it called: ich gehe in „die“ Schule, but: ich bin in „der“ Schule? (I hope you could translate this part)In English you just say "the". I don't know why I wrote that...but...I wish you all a wonderful day 😌!

"Learning a language with a different alphabet must be hard" Yes, as someone who lives in Russia I can say that it is difficult. There are 33 letters in the Russian alphabet and 26 in English. But in Russian there are only three tenses. How many of them there are in English, I even dread to think about. I don't even want to talk about learning Korean.

@@pred1312 it is weird indeed. we often only know the difference between a friend (freund) and boy/girlfriend (freund=male/freundin=female) on how you use the words in a sentense. :D for example if you would say in german: MEIN Freund/MEINE FREUNDIN.... you would mean MY boy/girlfriend. if you say: EIN Freund/EINE Freundin... you would mean A Friend of mine. not always, but most of the time this can help you decide if someone means a relationship partner or just a friend. keep in mind that if someone male says: MEIN FREUND he will probably mean a friend of his unless he's gay....then he could mean his boyfriend as well😄 i am hoping this makes more sense to you ^^

THANKS. I'm always upset when I need to speak about friends because it's the same like boy/girlfriend... but atleast you have alternative words like "Kumpel". Also it depends on how you say the sentece, for example: if you say: "*mein* Freund und ich leben jetzt in einer WG" then the listener probably thinks of your friend to be your boyfriend. If you instead say "*ein* Freund und ich leben jetzt in einer WG" then the people know that it's just a "regular" friend.
