Learning Control on the Dobro
Музыка
I've really enjoyed gaining more control of my Dobro playing and accessing more ideas over the past few years. I figured I would make this video to share some of those concepts with y'all and to give you an idea of what you can expect in my private lessons. Contact me at zebsnyderguitar@gmail.com or on Facebook or Instagram if you're interested in taking some lessons over Skype.

Man, really good stuff. Great explanations. I’m a 40 year guitarist learning dobro and this was perfect for me
Fantastic breakdown of right hand muting.
Hey Zeb, great job on this video. Very clear demonstration of essential Dobro technique.
Thank you, first time catching your channel. High quality easy to understand everything you covered. Again, thanks
I am just learning and I love this. You are helping me more than you know. Thank you for your time!

Thanks so much for all this important information! Just got a dobro today and your video helps a whole lot!
Thank you for the drop. It's not easy to learn about Dobro playing and you taught me a few things sir.
If I remember correctly, I met you when you were playing with the Appalachian Roadshow at the Center For Performing Arts in Bonita Springs, FL. It was about three years ago. Man, what a show! thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills!

Zeb I just saw you at the State Fair here in Minnesota. Your flatpicking skills were simply incredible! Thanks for coming up here.
Very helpful, Playing around with the Dobro a little and coming from Guitar. i am looking forward to checking out your channel more. Liked and subbed.👍
Awesome video, I love these tips. I'm always trying to improve my dobro playing since I'm mostly a guitar player. It helps to get some additional advice on muting. Its the hardest part about playing Dobro, is keeping everything sounding clean without any extra unwanted noises or overtones.
Man this is gonna be some good help.
Good job explaining. I jokingly tell people it's like driving a learning to drive a Skid Loader 😅
thank you!
nice thanks man
As soon as he started doing the licks i put my dobro down... jokes... I'm learning all this... I'm not worthy I'm not worthy
Thank you
Hello I just Purchased a Gold Tone Paul Beard Resonator guitar and I had them string it left handed and I had the,tune it in the key of G so I am new to this type of playing I have never played a Guitar before but I fooled around with a tenor banjo witch I had just purchased as well, and I lurked to play by ear but I thought I would go with the guitar because of an old injury so this is where I an...
pick blocking, will help control overtones and mute strings you don’t want ringing out , we use that technique playing pedal steel, at least the newer styles steel players do
Good
Is there any instrument Zeb cant play? You are an awesome musican.
Way cool Mr. Snyder, I learned a couple of things and that’s encouraging. Maybe I checkout your new channel sometime,. Thank You

can you do videos for the mandolin :)
Great information. What do your eyes look like?
Hello, I have a 6 year old that is interested in the dobro. I'm not sure where to begin! Should I bother putting him on something 'easier' first (ukulele) or just wait till he is a bit bigger and head straight into dobro? Also trying to find teachers in the Charleston, SC area.
I could be interested in a private lesson once I get my dobro. What kind of dobro is that?

Feel free to email me to talk about lessons. zeb@snyderfamilyband.com. That's a Wechter Scheerhorn mahogany dobro.
i have a round neck dobro can i still play this style with it? or i need square neck?
@zebsnydermusic

You'll either have to put a nut riser on that roundneck or get a squareneck. Truly, you need a squareneck.
What bar and picks to you like to use?
@zebsnydermusic
2 жыл бұрын
I use a BlueChip JDR thumbpick, Shelor fingerpicks, and a Scheerhorn bar.
Teaching old dogs new tricks is always the hardest feat...since I've been finger picking 6 string for 30 years. First is that playing my Dobro is completely uncomfortable in every respect. The guitar is heavy, the metal picks are cumbersome, holding the bar of steel while muting is completely unnatural to the hand and the way it sits downhill on my lap makes my body tense fearing it might slide onto the floor. I put my left foot on the case to level it out. Maybe I will do better if I wear the strap and stand up. Maybe not. I guess I now know why the guy sold me such a nice axe at such a good price. BTW...Your good chops will make me stick with it for at least a while longer...!
Is this a beard josh swift dobro?
@zebsnydermusic

No, it's a mahogany Wechter Scheerhorn.
Dobros are usually played open G like a banjo, correct?
@zebsnydermusic
3 жыл бұрын
Well, open G, but only partly like a banjo. From bass to treble, a dobro is usually tuned G-B-D-G-B-D.

@@zebsnydermusic from what I could tell in videos you’re bared cords are in the same place, 2,4,5,7,9,11,12 correct
@zebsnydermusic

@@cadenwalker3938 Think about it this way. It's tuned to an open chord, so any time you put the bar across all six strings on any fret, that's a major chord. Just find your root note on the G string to play whatever chord you're looking for.
