As a French Canadian, I rarely talk in English but I easily can translate in my head. So I started to practice myself to think in English before going to sleep. Since that time I've Emma in background in my head and what I say in subtitle. Then the morning when I get up I decided to speak in English to an imaginary friend but it became Emma! Please Emma, if you can cast a spell with your hands, can you give me the gift of speaking English perfectly in one shot?!

I always speak to my self loudly and I don't care what people say about me .thanks a lot because it has been a big influence on me

Teacher from heaven, appreciate that, I've been practicing to speak fluent English for the past 5 years, never had a lesson like this, you know it's really hard when we are not not trying to speak in English

This is really a good advice: we are fluent in a language only when we learn to think in it. Seems so simple, but we have to make an effort by changing our common way of thinking. Thanks my dear Emma!

I lived in the UK for over 10 yrs now and I naturally started thinking and dreaming in English, since work in English and have an English partner. Now I need to translate from English to my native language and that’s when problems start.

Hi, Emma! 🙋‍♂️ This is really brilliant and useful lesson, even now, in 2020! 😊 Yeah, I used to translate in my mind every time when I tried to say something in English. But recently I'm so obsessed about studying English that I immersed myself into English-speaking environtment right here, on KZread. I've even created my own channel where I speak only English, and I make English-speaking vlogs and podcasts. Yeah, my grammar isn't perfect, and I speak really slowly and funny, but in the end of the day - I SPEAK! 😛 I speak and I don't translate in my head now (almost, to be honest). This is hard, but this is very useful also. So, I hope my example can inspire somebody else to stop hesitating and start coomunicating directly in their target language, not neccessary in English itself. Stay safe, my friends! See you! 👏

I've been doing this exercise for a long time, and although It may sound strange, it works. I use to write down on my mobile the words that I would like to say or things that I see and I don't know in English, and then at home I look up them and I try to use the next day, and It is a good way to learn new words

I would recommend using less ellipsis (These " ... ") when typing. This will make your writing look a lot more natural to a native English speaker. 👍

Thanks Emma! for sharing these tips, they are really helpful, actually most of my English teachers say that we might think in English, but what they don't say is how, but now you hit the nail on the head! I'm gonna put these tips into practice, that's a given! I use to think in conversations in my head, I must admit is weird but it really works, another way to improve my English is to talk with my dog in english of course hahaha. there is no a magic formula to learn a language so the only thing we can do is to practice and be persistent. :) Again, thank you so much!
