That’s a good tune. Not sure I’ve ever played it though
My suggesting is to listen to Eric Ellis pik this song. I believe he's playing it with a group with 1948 in their name. He's the best on that tune I've ever heard. Except Earl of course. David Peterson and 1948 is the band I'm about sure of it. It's on u tube.

Hey Jim, I have a question. How close or how raised should the tail head of the banjo be?

Kinda depends on the banjo. I generally start with the front of the tailpiece set at about 3/8” above the head.
