    TO CLARIFY: I find that my 1x1 ribbing always looks neater on the wrong side. This video shows how I tidy up my one by one ribbing by making what would be the wrong side of my rib into the right side. After the initial short row to make it so I am working on the inside of my cuff I do no more short rows. I just knit from the inside. Please feel free to leave a comment if you need more clarification.

    🤯🤯🤯 OMG... genius!!! I have such. A sloppy knit stitch in ribbing so I always do twisted rib cuffs...which is nice too but I prefer the look of regular ribbing especially with the tubular cast off. I can't thank you enough for showing us this trick. ❤❤❤ Happy Holidays!!!

    I want to learn to purl like you. Do you have an. Tutorial where you show it, slowly? I can barely tell what you are doing except your yarn stays in the back. That what Arne and Carlos do the name escapes my tongue this moment. Is everyone’s ribbing cleaner looking on the inside; would you say? Thanks Amanda. I hope you are having a great well deserved vacation.

    I don’t right now, but this one should help you! It’s called “Norwegian Purling” kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmlow9KwgM7Ygso.htmlsi=6m-6CyU6n2S2cYII Honestly, everyone I’ve talked to seems to be neater on the inside. It’s strange!

    Episode request! I noticed in a previous episode you used to use lion brand wool ease. I would love an episode where you compare, feel, durability, shape of sweaters, made with less expensive yarn combinations versus sweaters made with more expensive combinations. My goal is to have a nice nice wardrobe, but not every sweater needs to be a $300 sweater…. I’d love a comparison of drape and comfort and a total cost roughly of each project. Thank you!

    Could you use this technique when starting with ribbing for a sleee or sweater by doing a cast on row, knit 1 row beginning with that short row snd continuing as your directions? Thank you.

  • @birchandlily

    What I would do is knit your cuff as normal then flip it inside out so that the ws is now the outside, do a short row to get working back in the correct direction, and just start your sleeve as normal!

    Wonderful tutorial, Amanda, although I'm not entirely clear, I'm going to trust that if I follow what you did, I'll get the same beautiful ribbing result you get. Question(s) If I'm knitting the ribbing on a sock, will I, first, cast on, then add a plain knitting row before beginning the 1x1? And when I complete the 1x1, will I just start the leg/leg pattern without doing a German short row? Thank you so very much!

  • @birchandlily

    @birchandlily

    I would knit your cuff normally, flip it inside out when you’re done all the rows you want, then do the German short row to get you oriented in the right direction for the rest of your sock. Hope that makes sense!
