Tyler, love the video! I need to fish more poppers and frogs! Could you give a summary of what water and weather conditions to throw which top water? I think the info is all in the video, I just had a hard time keeping it all straight!
i got a new frog this weekend and in my excitement to test it out i tied what was apparently not a knot at all, casted out and watched my new frog fly away. didnt get to retrieve it even once. worst part is, my day on the water actually went downhill from there. this video opening with a frog has reopened the wound! 😂

Just became a member! Tyler I love the vids! Quick question, do you think that I can use jigs for my 7 ft medium heavy?
Always loved that BamaBass blowup!
The GoPro effect is real for your pb largie up north but Ik it was big and I believe you😭
In the beginning of the video is that your pb behind you?
I'm weird. I'm typically a right handed reel person but when I have to cadence a top water bait I have to use a left handed reel bc for some reason my left hand can't walk baits haha
Thanks ! Awesome video. One thing I do know is not everybody has 20 different rods and reels, and all that, so what is a good do all for using frogs ?
Ur awesome
If you live in South Carolina and your closest 6 Mile Rd. there’s a pond. The guy that owns upon his name is Rae. He actually goes to my church if you want to you could probably go to his house and ask him if he can fish in this pond. I caught a bunch of bass on the Texas rig amino and a walking jig
Somthin I like to do with the plopper that I've not seen anyone else do is add a feathered treble hook on back...I also put a split ring on the line tie
Great video! What's your opinion on the ribbit top toad? I've been having really good luck on them up in sw PA. I feel like they're the best of both worlds you can chuck and wind it and just use the action of the lure. I have walked it a few times. It is a hollow body similar to any other frog?
Heddon crazy crawler was probably one of the first crawler style baits to come out. I believe way back in the 30's if im remembering correctly.

You are close. Heddon introduced the Crazy Crawler in 1940.
Years ago i got a big lure from my dad. I believe it was called Lucky 13, probably 10" in length. First time i used it, i chucked it across the river, probably 40 feet. It crashed hard to the water. Let it sit probably for 20 or 25 seconds. Made 1 turn on my reel and a big splashing and swirl slammed it. Hit with so much force i thought it was going to rip the pole from my hand. I got maybe 4 or 5 turns on it and line went slack. Reeled in the line and lure/fish completetly gone. Im assuming it was a very large northern pike. Pretty sure i landed it right on top of its head or close to it. Whatever it was, it was larte enough to go after that lure. It was the last time and only time i ever got to use that lure. The fish became my nemesis after that. Never got anything close to being big enough to go after that lure.
My friend asked if I wanted to come fish at his family pond 3 months ago, never used a topwater bait but had a black and yellow buzz bait that cost $8 that morning and caught 12 bass 3 4-6 pounders then rest maybe a pound on my way home I stopped at the bait shop and bought 2 more of the same and been fishing twice a week ever since😂
I’ve caught more bass in 2024 on a Berkley Choppo 90 than everything else I’ve thrown combined. So much fun!

I throw the pompadore a ton and catch a lot of fish on it
Use a left handed reel. No switching hands involved. After throwing a pencil bait, do you wait or just start going immediately? What time of day is the best time for topwater?
If I get the frog combo (mach jacked) whats the heaviest braid I can throw on it?
On my local lake, Castaic in Southern California, the top water is going full steam but my baits of past aren’t producing much (pop r’s, 2 1/2- 3 inch swim baits, chug bugs and whopper plopper). This last weekend, I was able to get a clear view of the size of the shad that largemouth, smallmouth and stripers were boiling on, couldn’t have been more than an inch. What’s your thoughts of instead of trying to match the hatch that I don’t have anything that small, to go with something bigger like pencil popper, hair jig, spook or glide baits? Do you ever throw a popping frog in open water? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Btw, I can’t thank you enough for your content, you’re helping more fishermen than you realize!
Tyler, great video. I would, however, argue that whopper ploppers are also effective on a short plop and stop retrieve rather than just a straight retrieve 😉
@TylersReelFishing

Definitely can be! If I said “can’t” then I misspoke
$14.99 ant nuttin...I typically spend $20-$30 on shower blows, jt ,vixen ,giant dog x as well as the mega bass grand siglet lol the only top water that I'm actually compatant at is the plopper lol but I've practiced and mastered walking the dog and I'm just waiting on the weekend to go try'em
Do u think a popping frog walked back to you skipped under docks and over stumps and underneath trees is better than a walking frog since I will be fishing no matted or thick grass?
I have had amazing luck just dead sticking a whopper plopper in the late summer. They cast a mile too!

Hi
I want to ask you about the buzz bait retrieval, I was fishing a farm pond yesterday and 95% of my hits on the buzzbait out of like 6 fish were caught when I let the buzzbait go below the surface and burn it to get back to the top, with only one fish hitting on the top. Is this just because I was fishing a less pressured farm pond or can this be used as technique? Indiana located
@TylersReelFishing
22 күн бұрын
Sounds to me like you would’ve crushed them on a spinner bait😂 Buzzbait is meant to be on top. You are free to retrieve any lure in whatever way you like, but underneath the water is not where that is designed to be thrown.
What rod and reel setup are you using for big bait at 23:30??
@TylersReelFishing

Super duty wide spool (discontinued reel) and a discontinued Lew’s 7’11” rod. I need to update that combo
What topwater lure is good for windy/kinda choppy water? Would I use a wake bait, plopper, or walking bait?

Occasionally I will have 2 of the same color in different sizes on. Like if I’m fishing down a dam of a lake, I’ll cast the lighter one towards the dam and the heavier one away from the dam. (Though this isn’t that often that I do that. Mostly in late winter. You can catch the ones still hanging deep as well as the ones moving shallow to feed.

Then he either has Thor's hookset, he is not fishing a frog where it is intended (heavy stuff), or he is losing/not hooking up with quite a few fish. The hooks on most hollow belly frogs are not meant to be set with a resin line

@TylersReelFishing
22 күн бұрын
Yessir, you can throw a treble hooked bait on mono, or a buzzbait/plopper since they are moving back to you and the fish kind of hooks itself. A frog though, takes a strong hookset from a stationary position. Braid helps with that
I've caught many many bass with the frog on mono and I've caught even more bass on fluorocarbon.. I really don't get why you would be telling people to never use anything but braid for frogs... I use 10-15 lb fluorocarbon usually and I have absolutely no issues setting the hook

Does anyone else catch themselves dreaming about top water bites? I sleep talk really bad and my wife swears I’ll be asleep twitching my wrist and reeling….
