i got a new frog this weekend and in my excitement to test it out i tied what was apparently not a knot at all, casted out and watched my new frog fly away. didnt get to retrieve it even once. worst part is, my day on the water actually went downhill from there. this video opening with a frog has reopened the wound! 😂

Years ago i got a big lure from my dad. I believe it was called Lucky 13, probably 10" in length. First time i used it, i chucked it across the river, probably 40 feet. It crashed hard to the water. Let it sit probably for 20 or 25 seconds. Made 1 turn on my reel and a big splashing and swirl slammed it. Hit with so much force i thought it was going to rip the pole from my hand. I got maybe 4 or 5 turns on it and line went slack. Reeled in the line and lure/fish completetly gone. Im assuming it was a very large northern pike. Pretty sure i landed it right on top of its head or close to it. Whatever it was, it was larte enough to go after that lure. It was the last time and only time i ever got to use that lure. The fish became my nemesis after that. Never got anything close to being big enough to go after that lure.

On my local lake, Castaic in Southern California, the top water is going full steam but my baits of past aren’t producing much (pop r’s, 2 1/2- 3 inch swim baits, chug bugs and whopper plopper). This last weekend, I was able to get a clear view of the size of the shad that largemouth, smallmouth and stripers were boiling on, couldn’t have been more than an inch. What’s your thoughts of instead of trying to match the hatch that I don’t have anything that small, to go with something bigger like pencil popper, hair jig, spook or glide baits? Do you ever throw a popping frog in open water? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Btw, I can’t thank you enough for your content, you’re helping more fishermen than you realize!

I have yet to get something on a wopper plopper other than alligators chasing it. Frogs and spooks no problem but that plopper no confidence

50-65 pound braid for bass is wild

It’s needed for the abrasion resistance in heavy cover/thick vegetation, and knot strength. 20lb braid will snap if I set the hook on a frog with it

Where in need york is that. I hate it here in ny but I'm on Long Island. Western ny seems nice except for politics

I’ve never heard that you can’t use mono or fluorocarbon with a frog. My buddy catches bass on frogs with mono all the time

Then he either has Thor's hookset, he is not fishing a frog where it is intended (heavy stuff), or he is losing/not hooking up with quite a few fish. The hooks on most hollow belly frogs are not meant to be set with a resin line

@@TylersReelFishing did not know that!! Thanks for the info man. I wasn’t trying to call you a liar or anything, just didn’t understand fully. So not impossible but you lose more fish than you would with braid. Got it boss, thanks again!

Yessir, you can throw a treble hooked bait on mono, or a buzzbait/plopper since they are moving back to you and the fish kind of hooks itself. A frog though, takes a strong hookset from a stationary position. Braid helps with that

I've caught many many bass with the frog on mono and I've caught even more bass on fluorocarbon.. I really don't get why you would be telling people to never use anything but braid for frogs... I use 10-15 lb fluorocarbon usually and I have absolutely no issues setting the hook

Does anyone else catch themselves dreaming about top water bites? I sleep talk really bad and my wife swears I’ll be asleep twitching my wrist and reeling…. This past week after 4th of July fishing trips I was apparently “setting the hook in my sleep, and saying: GOT EM, NICE ONE ON THE FROG, OOOO GOT EM’ ON THE FALL WITH THE JIG… *snore* ZZZzzz” I didn’t believe her until I saw the video 😂😅🫣
