    Hey honies! Glad you like the yarn I'm using. It's from a company called Yarn & Colors. The gray is called Zen, a tubular nylon/cotton blend and it's color 096; the brown/orange is called Cheerful, a voluminous wool/acrylic blend, and it's color 026. You can find these yarns on Yarn And Colors website - www.yarnandcolors.com/

    I have been watching multiple slo mo and beginner videos, and this was the most helpful and clearest. This is the video that did it for me. The smooth yarn, the “training wheels”, the clear location description and why, the different stitches, how to read the stitches, why to rotate, and why to create a chain when flipping. Finally it makes sense! Thanks for remembering what was hard for you when you started-your empathy is appreciated and made this very usable.

    A tip for beginners: Even though I am still a beginner my tip is don’t let other people tell you what is right and wrong. Choose what it is comfortable for you for example I was told I have to hold my hook like a pencil but the way I hold it makes me 10 times faster than holding it like a pencil! If you do something differently doesn’t mean it isn’t right!

  • @caitlynbecker3626

    @caitlynbecker3626

    2 жыл бұрын

    This! Also good to note that you don't have to hold every hook the same. For example if I'm using big yarn, meaning big hooks (looking at you Bernat Blanket Extra) I change my hook grip to accommodate. I usually do a modified pencil/chopstick hold, but when using extra large hooks I knife hold. It is ALL about what is comfortable for YOU.

    I did this whole thing and I'm really proud of myself! I definitely started again multiple times and practiced each individual stitch a ton, dropped a few stitches here and there, and had some issues with tension (tight at the beginning, more even as I went along), but I learned so much! Especially foundational things that I would have definitely missed if I jumped straight into patterns (which I kind of did, but came back to this to nail the basics). Learning to identify stitches by the v at the top was definitely the most useful take away for me, as I'm horrible at reading stitches and get so confused when things come out slightly wonky and I don't know why. Turns out I was putting hook into the wrong place half the time lol. I still need to get better at reading the back and front of stitches, but thank you so much for making this! I'll definitely be coming back to it over and over. You explained things so clearly and just watching how your hands moved was hugely helpful in itself.

    I’m just starting; as in today is my first time EVER even knowing how to place the yarn on the hook. How do you hold your yarn? I’m finding it really difficult to figure out how to hold it…that’s what is frustrating me the most at this point.

    @@JamiLeigh77 just mess around making chains and restarting until you're comfy, holding the yarn is super important. I found some beginner videos that helped me. The yarn comes in to your left pinky if right handed, wraps around once, then over the top of the hand and your pointer leads it with your left thumb. The right hand holds the tool with your pointer and thumb with the rest of the hand holding the thing you're working on. Something like that. Just mess around until you're comfy

A beginner video showing me how to ID where each "stitch" is was equally as important to me as holding the yarn because I make so many mistakes it's important to know how to fix them. Like the tool slips out and i have to take off a couple stitches to fix it would be a "start over" moment originally but now it's an easy fix :) you got this!
