I am so happy I found this channel! I have been studying (as much as I can) Icelandic here in the US. My maternal grandmother was from northern Iceland near Akureyri and I have been trying to reconnect with my heritage by studying the language. It is remarkably difficult to find learning materials here, and my biggest problem is the case endings! I hope to travel to Iceland in the near future and to be able to speak enough to not be a typical American "Já takk"!

Okay, Sonia, I’m impressed that you’re understanding more after four years, I think Icelandic sounds wonderful but seems impenetrable from outside. Ingimar you did try very hard to get my brain to understand that, but I failed miserably. I do however enjoy watching your videos. More, please! Takk fyrir!

I mean, Ingimar pronounced them as clearly as possible. Seeing how his facial muscles move as he utters the sounds has helped me immensely, literally like no other recitation of the alphabet. Thank you very much! I have one question though, and it concerns the letter Y (or Ý for that matter). Do you pronounce it more like "ipsilon" or "upsilon"? Asking because my ears believe it's the former, but I'm not sure.

Góðan daginn frá Québec! Ég er að læra íslensku til ánægju. Íslenskan er ekki auðveldasta tungumálið en ekki það erfiðasta heldur. Gengi þér vel og bless bless! :)

Beautiful alphabet and interesting video! Question: Is Icelandic a phonetic language? It looks like it's full of diverse letters because the oral language is the same as the written one, is it? Or that's just a fantasy of mine? xD
