    Hello Maarten, I'm Puerto Rican, but I used to live in the Dominican Republic, so I think it's a mixture of the too. But definitely a more "Caribbean" Spanish Accent. I feel Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba are all fairly similar. My Spanish would be categorized somewhere in there.

    As far as the "distance", as you say - and this is comment is more of a question to be resolved - Este is a form used in clear and direct contexts, in turn being "it". - So if you were talking about a book, you may say "It was good" Ese is for an unclear YET direct context of "that". - So if you threw the book you would basically be saying "It was that." Aquel is more unclear and indirect context of "that" - If a person didn't know what happened, they'd be saying "What was that?" Then of course you add the gender and/or plural rules for the next stage in respecting the language rules of context. Is this correct?

  • @SpeakSpanishFaster

    @SpeakSpanishFaster

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the question. Okay let me try to explain it a little better if possible. 1. Correct - Este is a form used in clear and direct contexts. The key difference between Este, Ese, and Aquel is simply the distance. So in English, if something is close to you, you would say THIS (Este) thing right here. If it's across the room from you then you would say THAT (Ese) thing is over there. Aquel is more abstract. There's no real 100% rule to determine when to say Ese vs. Aquel. They both mean THAT. But Aquel would be primarily used for things that are farther away. So I would interpret it as THAT WAY OVER THERE (Aquel). But they all are used in clear contexts. When you know the "thing" is masculine you would use Este, Ese, Aquel. When you know it's feminine you would use Esta, Esa, Aquella. When gender is unclear, whether because you don't know the word or know the gender, you can use Esto or Eso. THIS or THAT. I hope this helps.

    8:00 I've literally heard people from the Caribbean say something that would sound like, "Dame e' (pronounced, _eh_ ) libro". 💁🏿‍♂️ And as weird and confusing as that is, it totally cuts out the need for conjugations.

    This sentence came for me from Duolingo and I just can't figure that out "El hombre no esta cansado". So why it telling me to put esta on that sentence when "El hombre" and "cansado" is muscular? Is there some trick or error or why it not be "El hombre no este cansado". I'm glad I found this video and your channel! You truly get new sub.
