Yaroslava, you are awesome! I absolutely loved this video - the theme, the way you present and your explanations of Russian words and expressions. On a different note, during your first reading I could understand why you were moved by Yeltsin's speech. But when you went through the text slowly, I saw things quite differently. I started to recognize a typical politician (or even a powerful boss) speech: "I meant well", "I feel you pain" (typical Bill Clinton expression), etc. It also reminded me of my sister's former boss Christmas speeches - his nickname among employees was "I love you all". Or of McNamara saying "we were wrong" (about Vietnam)... in the nineties. More than apologizing, it sounds to me these are people trying to appease their consciences (of course, the bright side is that at least they have some...) С Новым Годом! ...and please continue making great videos!

Perhaps it is just me, but I find your pronounciation so much clearer than Yeltsin's. 😀With the help of your explanations and your vivid gestures :-) I understood most of it, even without subtitles. Thanks for this vid and all the teaching in 2023. I wish you and your family all the best in 2023. Greetings from Germany.

It's not just you. Later stages of alcoholism are very unforgiving for pronunciation (and many other things).

A lot better under Putin. He isn’t popular for no reason at all, or because of brainwashing or whatever. He’s depicted as some sort of evil Marvel villain in the west, but it’s insane to pretend he’s done nothing for Russia

Ofc under Putin. But it is not fair to compare these 2 periods due to their drastically different nature (after ussr inflation and problems, transition to open market, etc in 90s, and high oil prices, more stable in general economy, cooled down post ussr collapse resentment in 00s) I agree with @osafune2, that is it crazy to say that he's done nothing. He had a good timing and used it well.

Путин это протеже Ельцина. Однако, по моему скромному мнению, Путин из 2024 года расстрелял бы Путина из 1999 года. Ключевым моментом была "Мюнхенская речь" Путина в 2007, когда тем, кто смеялся над вопросом "Who is Mr. Putin?", стало не смешно.

One was a stooge of Western interests looking to undermine and exploit the Russian people and steal the wealth of the country, the other wrested respectability and dignity back to Russia. There's absolutely no question which leader was, and still is, best for Russia. I still remember the Time Magazine article from '96 publicly gloating over the fact the US had manipulated events to get their chosen man in office - "Yanks to the Rescue: The Secret Story of How American Advisors Helped Yeltsin Win"

It is clickbait but that's okay, we appreciate the Russian language content. It seems ironic that you left Russia and reproach Putin but you moved to Argentina and have to deal with Javier Milei. By the way, what a way to begin 2024 with that cringe scene with his girlfriend while the country is falling apart. It seems Milei is Washington's and the IMF's Trojan Horse. I feel for the Argentine people. That country is going to get absolutely wrecked.

It’s funny that some russians are leaving, I recently spent two months in Russia studying the language and getting a taste of life there. I’m considering relocating. I’m an orthodox Christian and the various moral crises in the west is unsettling and upsetting. Russia is no utopia, it has its problems, but at the same time I feel like maybe I could raise a family without constant stress over what moral depravity they’re being exposed to in schools. I am becoming increasingly convinced that the ruling class of the western “democracies” are literally evil

Incredible video and I cannot imagine the work to prepare this video. Dec 31, 1999 was a milestone in the life of many people. I was busy at work because of eventual Y2K bug. But I didn't remember that this much more important event occurred also at this moment. Thanks so much Yaroslava. Unfortunately I don't have yet sufficient knowledge of the Russian language to appreciate all the details. 🤍💙❤
