Hey thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm currently working on an instructional design portfolio project, ans Storyline sometimes just gives me headaches, especially when working with video and animations. This gives me hope that I'll be able to go beyond what limited functionality Storyline gives me with the triggers. Thanks!

This video was just posted a few weeks ago. Had some good response so I for sure see the need for the course. I am currently working on a Camtasia certification course for TechSmith, then plan to overhaul my basic Storyline course and then probably dive into the JavaScript and Storyline course after that so may be Q2 or Q3 of this year before it comes out.
I would love to learn more about using JavaScript in Storyline 360.

It's in the works! Still in planning stages but once I finish up recording my other course this will be the next main focus.
Why didn't the updatedNum part need to be in quotation marks like the "variableTest" needed to be in? player.SetVar("variableTest", updatedNum);
@LearningDojo
9 күн бұрын
Because updatedNum is a variable name coming from the line of code above. The quotes are because you are passing the info back to Storyline. Just a formatting requirement.
Looking for info on using js to change player style. Need to show hide menu items. Is this possible? Havent found a tut yet.

Oh like hide/remove and chance color in the player settings? That is done within the player settings button when you are on the home tab.
I believe we have been looking for rooms to go for a full course on Practical JS application in Storyline. I've been following you on the Udemy.

@LearningDojo

I am working on a course that will cover this but Storyline essentially publishes websites because they are websites they are HTML, CSS and JavaScript. HTML is the structure of a website, CSS is the style and JavaScript is how the Website behaves. By added on our own JavaScript we are able to go beyond the functionality Storyline provides. Hopes that helps some.
Hey Jeff, please make the course on JavaScript basics that I can use in Storyline.

How would you store a variable using SL and js in a user's browser using localStorage so that you can pass the same variable when starting a new course in a different SL build?
@LearningDojo
2 ай бұрын
Hmm, great question. That may be a good future video topic. You have to trigger a JS trigger that gets the variable from SL and then saves it into LocalStorage before the course closes. Then once the new course loads you would have to check the local storage if if there is local storage then you set the variable within the new Storyline course. I added that in my backlog for a future video. Thanks for the idea!

@@LearningDojo I tried this and failed, my js knowledge isn't any good. This is the code I used: // Ensure that Storyline Player is available var player = GetPlayer(); // Retrieve the value of the variable CharacterSelection from Storyline var characterSelection = player.GetVar("CharacterSelection"); // Store the value in localStorage localStorage.setItem("CharacterSelection", characterSelection); Retrieve the Variable from localStorage; // Ensure that Storyline Player is available var player = GetPlayer(); // Retrieve the value from localStorage var savedSelection = localStorage.getItem("CharacterSelection"); // Check if there is a saved value and set it back to the Storyline variable if (savedSelection !== null) { player.SetVar("CharacterSelection", Number(savedSelection)); } I am thinking It needs to be hosted on the same server in order for it to actually work.

The biggest issue I have is finding inspiring code from GITHUB but not knowing where to begin to put it into a storyline file. I'm wondering if you could show the different ways js and storyline can interact, and what code in the JS is needed and what variables, triggers, accessibility names are needed in SL.

@@LearningDojo yea i know how to use the layers I was just interested in making pop up box look smaller and more slick. also ppl are more used to those alert boxes then a layer popping up. and some of our materials are complex and a instruction pop up for each slide is annoying and time consuming.
