Dear Valentina, Thank you, it has been very helpful. I have a question. İn the compound numbers 41 quarantuno and 48 quarantotto, the tonic stress is on the 2nd to last syllable. Other than these 2 compound which were formed by droppi g the last vowel of quaranta, all other forties seem to have two accents, one on the second to last syllable of the word quaranta, and one on the second to last syllable of the second number. For examle, if I hear correctly, in the compound word quarAntasEtte, there are two tonic accents on the two wovels I capitalized. Am I right?

Buongiorno! I understand this can be confusing. We can only have one stress for each word. For numbers, even compound ones, the stress is on the second to last syllable, except for the ones ending in "tre" (es. quarantatré). When one pronounces them slowly, though, it may sound as they do have two stresses (one for the tens and one for the number). So the correct pronunciation for 47 is "quarantasEtte".

You are right. There is a minor stress on the second syllable in this compound word. If you move it to a different syllable (e.g., the first one), it will sound a little bit different (with the main stress unchanged).
