There are hundreds of sharpening videos. But you have *VITAL* information that other people don’t mention. In such a short time, you managed to explain everything about sharpening. This is why I love your content. I learn so much.

Hello there. It seems as though you are questioning my integrity. Suggesting that I may be misrepresenting myself simply because I'm on Online. Not very nice. This is a supportive community. If you don't have anything positive to say perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all.

Nah man, I love your show, I'm a member I watch everyday. That wasn't for you. There was a guy who sent me a comment insinuating that I was being dishonest because it was a KZread comment. He also said that a 12 year old could figure this stuff out in a day. He must have deleted his comment I cannot find it. My apologies If you felt that it directed was towards you. I just hate bullies in the comment section. This is a great community and I'd like to keep it that way. Nothing but love for you bro. Take care.

Hey Jerad, excellent job on the video ! My skills on sharpening over the last 2 years skyrocketed thanks to you teaching the fundamentals, granted I use a K03 to sharpen , but I feel if I had to sharpen freehand I can do it with little to no problem, the fundamentals are there! Bang ‼️

A jeweler's loupe helps a lot to look at your blade edge to see if you're grinding your edge all the way from heel to tip and to see your burr (although you should be able to feel it).

Man I really appreciate the level of detail in your explanation. If there’s anybody I trust to listen to about sharpening, it’s you. There’s certainly lots and lots of videos showing masters at sharpening but they suck at teaching and helping people actually understand the process and be able to recreate their methods. You’re an absolute treasure.

Awesome video. Since you recommend 600 grit for the final sharpening, what size of grid should we begin first? You did not mention the first stone's grid size in the video.
Great video!
Nice clear guide. I must be ambidextrous, because I just switch hands and glide away when sharpening both edges.
That freaking AMAZING!!! You make it look so easy. I'll sharpen one time and it works perfectly, then the next time it's about as sharp as a brick. I can't tell what I've done different. Anyways, love the video as always. Best wishes to you all.

Awesome Thanks J
This very helpful. I did a 12-month culinary course, but they spent very little time on knife-sharpening so it never quite clicked for me. They did make us all buy a steel to hone the knives with, which I'm told is supposed to remove small burrs. Is it interchangeable with a strop?
Thank you
Thanks. Can you come sharpen my knives now. Lol. Good video
Starting to get fancy with illustrations.
What the best rod to use for a bowie kinfe... I'm not good on the stone and I'm slow any info you can give me... thank you...

2:24 do we pressure on the forward pass (cutting into the stone) or backward pass (away from the stone)? Or is the pressure the same on both passes?
1. Sharpen side A until scratch pattern is completely down the bevel and a burr has formed on side B. 2. Sharpen side B until scratch pattern goes completely down the bevel and burr has formed in side A. 3. De-burr side A using a single reverse pass. 4. De-burr side B using a single reverse pass. 5. Repeat 3 and 4 until there is no burr. Did I get that right? I don’t need to do major reprofiling, so I just grabbed a 600 grit diamond stone from your Amazon store. Love the work you do bro!
This video needs to climb up to millions of views 😉

Hello, I have been trying to understand when and how to use stones depending on their grain size. I don't know how often I should use a 300-500-700 stone.Thank you
Yasssss, saving this for later. Been trying some lately, my Worksharp precision adjust fixed an extremely blunt budget WMF kitchen knife. Happy how that turned out, but clearly I need a ton of practice

Thanks needed to sharp my hatchet I am cutting down a lot of big ass weeds.
Do you use oil or water with a diamond block?
It's very important that you get to that tip.
Best knife sharpening tool I own is the concrete driveway outside my front door.
Are all straps the same or should you look for apmething specific
We use linoleum knives for cutting excess fiberglass resin of bathtubs and if the catalyst dried it too fast then your gonna havehatd time sharpening..we do it on a machine...could you do a video like that

Hey Jerad! Thanks for the video, I have been trying to sharpen my old hunting knife for a while now and haven’t been successful till now. It had all kinds of chips in the blade and had to be completely re-profiled, I was able to get it hair splitting sharp with the help of your video! Quick question, do you use oil on the Worksharp benchstone? It says no water or oil needed on it but wasn’t sure.
@NeevesKnives
Жыл бұрын
thats awesome and im glad the videos help, and no i use them dry i prefer to use diamond plates dry , but you can use water or soapy water which can make them last longer
Could you please do a spearpoint blade sharpening video? Preferably with the worksharp or a guided system? Plllleeeeeease 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Does the height of the blade matter when it comes to the angle?
When you say 600 grit, would that be JIS, or FEPA?
I only sharpen blades against the edge with frequent flipping to opposite sides. It certainly takes longer, but There is never a burr that way. I've learned how to sharpen cutting edges for lathe cutting tools.
Hi there, Thank you foe the video's they are excellent! One question, do you put pressure both was when sharpening, pushing and pulling or only one direction? Thsnks again, John.
@NeevesKnives
3 ай бұрын
if im going in both directions i put light pressure on both, you want to let the diamonds or stone do the cutting you have to apply a little pressure but you dont want it to effect your ability to maintain angle which is most important
@JohnJez
3 ай бұрын
@@NeevesKnives thank you, that is what it looked like you were doing. I thought I read somewhere before, for e.g. you only put pressure as you push forward but no pressure on the way back. Thanks, John
Is it feasible to sharpen like this with only one hand ? I'm a stroke survivor / left hand only.
Problem is, most if us don't want to take the time to do that. Is there a quicker way for sharpening steak knives. Like multiple knives?
So can I just go grab a stone for my backyard and just get to work?
i think fresh blades can start closer to 20deg and then gradually go to 17 as the the edge wears down with time. that way it naturally saves you time
is it actually matter how much degree angles? lets say between 15 and 20 as long as i sharpened consistency
Do you have the compression lock folder??
What if the burr just keeps flipping and won’t flake off? Go back the the stone?
Great video! Just bought an Atoma 400 with your link. Recommendations on whether, for atomas specifically, to use dry, with water, or oil?
@NeevesKnives
Жыл бұрын
YOU CAN USE WATER AND IT MIGHT MAKE IT LAST A LITTLE LONGER, I PREFER USING THEM DRY BECAUSE I JUST HAVE TO DUST THEM OFF AFTER, BTW THANKS FOR USING MY LINKS THE ATOMA ARE AMAZING
Amazing video. So the stropping is just for deburring? Or just after a full sharpening you strop just to debur and then you can strop just to maintain going forward?
@NeevesKnives
Жыл бұрын
Yes, you Strop to remove any remaining burr from your de burring process, you also Strop to maintain your edge between Sharpenings, you can also hone your edge, if stropping doesn't work then hone if that doesn't work then it needs another full Sharpening
Overall- clean instruction… to get a burr, pressure is applied when moving material from bevel to apex… correct? It appears your pressure is Apex to bevel.. clarify please, I find that this is the main difference throughout all sharpening videos - what direction to apply light pressure .
Descent got any survival knife type video s uk
WOW Jared. Cool video. It does take time to get a technic, right? What do yo think about using a sharps on the blade? Thx
@scrick7112

That’s sharpe.
@NeevesKnives
Жыл бұрын
I think a sharpe is good if it helps you, I tend to try and look at the scratch pattern but it's the same thing the marker just makes it easier to see. And yes there's always a bit of a learning curve but with a little practice it's like riding a bike
How do you guesstimate the coarseness of stone you want to grind then hone your blades on? You said 600, is that just a universal coarseness? Ive been using 400 then 1000. Getting sharp, but not how i want it.
