    The lst time i saw such incredible qui.ting was on a quilt that was 120 years old and shredded, and there was only a piece about 2feet by 3feet square that was recognizable as a quilt. The stitchinh was intricate, perfect, close, like this is. My quilting will never be this perfect. You have my deepest respects as a quilter. But you have taken this to a level that has become art...youre a Quilting Michaelangelo! ❣👏👏👏😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    This is an amazing video! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm working on hand quilting a simple log cabin queen size quilt and I want to try this method because I'm having a little trouble keeping the stitches on the underside consistent. I can keep the spacing fairly consistent when looking from the top, but the stitches aren't grabbing as much fabric as I want on the underside and I think having a smooth thimble on the underside, like the video describes, would help. But I can't find a smooth thimble anywhere. I don't have a used thimble that is smooth; is there a smooth-tip thimble you can buy or should I sand/grind down the top of a thimble to make it smooth? Thank you for any advice!

    Hi Matthew, when I was recording the video, the thimble looked a bit like these amzn.to/3qWvr2f - a little smoother than regular thimbles. I hope this helps and thank you for watching : ) For further information, please feel free to contact Sandie via her website welshquilting.design/ : )

  • @ArnoldsAttic

    @ArnoldsAttic

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kathleen, thank you for watching! From my own hand quilting experience - make a small knot at the end of the thread; pass the threaded needle through just the top layer of the quilt, (an inch away from where you wish to start, and then back up at the point where you are starting to stitch) gently pull the thread and listen for a 'pop' as the knot disappears into the work. I hope this helps - Katie : )

    What an artist you are! Now, I have a couple of questions. I did not quite get how you described the needle you used under your work. Could you please explain what it is. Also, I was just wondering if you ever experience any problems with your upper arms/shoulders from all the quilting. When I quilt for an extended time, I have to put an ice pack on my shoulder/upper arm to keep it from "acting up". Thank you. I also am going to order the Bohin needles.

    I use a smooth thimble underneath Edna which forms a barrier that forces the needle back up to the surface. If you can balance the needle between the top and underneath thimbles and bring the thumb on your sewing hand forward so that when you rock the needle you hand is open (rather than clutching the needle), it takes the strain off your wrist and therefore rest of your arm. Also sitting with your back supported will help. All this is not as easy as it sounds and will take practice, but it really helps. Good luck and happy stitching! Sandie

    @@stonecrestquilt Bonedrymusic.com have a guide to what size thimble you will need. They are nice thimbles but if you don't want to wait for one of their thimbles to ship from the USA, you can try typing your size 'domed thimble' into Google. Hemline ones seem readily available. I'm not sure how well they fit, but you can always tape it onto your underneath finger if it feels loose. Looks like they also have some on Ebay and Etsy. Given you make holes in the underneath thimble after a while, don't buy a really expensive one !
