How-to advice www.animalrepellent.org/skunks Are you searching for ideas on how to get rid of skunks in your yard and around your home? We all know the problems with having a skunk invade your property. If you spot one in your yard, you should seek out the help of a good skunk repellent immediately. The consequences of allowing one of these pests to invade your backyard unchallenged can be extremely unpleasant. We all know about the terrible odor of their noxious spray. But did you also know that if it gets into your eyes, it can cause blindness? Aside from that, they also carry rabies. Getting rid of skunks doesn't have to be difficult. If you follow the easy steps in this short video clip and use a good skunk repellent, you can quickly and humanely eliminate them.
Skunks are known in the scientific community as Mephitidae (or Mephitis). They are mammals commonly known for the noxious liquid that it can spray from its anal gland to fend off predators. They are also sometimes referred to as Polecats. These mammals vary in appearance depending on the species. They are all born with stripes (or spots) and have long front claws that make them great diggers. Their favorite meals include subterranean pests and organisms, fruits and vegetables and whatever they can scavenge from our trashcans. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk
The first deterrent you can take advantage of in your quest of getting rid of skunks is to remove all the elements that attract them to your backyard. This includes the basic survival elements of food, shelter and water. These mammals enjoy a variety of meals so you'll need to take a few important steps to remove all the food sources. Some of their favorite meals include grubs and larvae from your soil, garbage, bird feeders, pet food and water from bird baths. Make sure all of your trash cans are secure with tight fitting lids. Also be sure to feed your pets indoors. Pet food is a strong source of attraction. If practical, you can use fencing as a repellent to restrict them from areas in your backyard such as gardens. Taking advantage of this advice will help to eliminate skunks and also work in conjunction with the other repellents discussed in this video.
Another important skunk deterrent is removing all possible areas that they can seek shelter. With so many readily available food sources nearby, they'll search hard for shelter as close to your home as possible. Be sure to eliminate all openings around your home, deck, garage and/or shed. This will help to get rid of skunks that have already moved in and prevent future ones from getting comfortable. *Tip: Make sure the skunk is not in the area that you are sealing.
Here is another important tip on how to get rid of skunks. Since they are nocturnal animals, motion activated security lights can be used as a very powerful skunk repellent. These security lights are great to have on patrolling your property altogether. If you don't already have them, search for one with a strong sensor, good range and bright lighting. Besides getting rid of skunks, these security lights are great for convenience, providing light and they are also great for repelling any intruders and mischiefs from your backyard. forums.gardenweb.com/forums/lo...
OK, now that you know the power of using security lights to repel animals, let's talk about another important tip. You'll need to learn how to eliminate all sources of food if you want to become an expert at how to get rid of a skunk. It is simple to remove most of the food sources in your yard that we discuss in this video but don't forget that grubs and other subterranean pests are their favorite meals. The best way to remove grubs and other potential meals from your soil is to use a product called "Milky Spore". Check out this short video and learn how to repel skunks with Milky Spore.
You'll need to watch the video above if you want to learn the final tip that I believe is the absolute best repellent. I'll show you how to use each of these products, where to buy them and how to get them at the lowest price. I hope you enjoy my video about how to get rid of skunks. Good Luck!

Crazy experience for me recently. It was 11pm at night and I’m walking around with my dog on my grandparents property. They have 15 chickens, so skunks are a common thing around here. Suddenly my dog takes off running and is growling and lunging at something in the bushes. I had my headlamp on and turned my attention in her direction, thinking I would see a cat. Cats are also very common. It was a skunk! I called her over and she came thankfully. Didn’t get sprayed! Way to close for comfort. I’m glad she is as well trained as she is! My good girl!

I personally would shoot skunks, but there are a couple reasons why I don’t and why you shouldn’t: 1. You can’t shoot a gun in city limits, unless you’re at some sort of gun range (if you life on private property then this doesn’t apply to you). 2. Blood and guts everywhere, especially if you shoot it with a large caliber gun 3. You have a dead skunk in your yard. (I wouldn’t wanna touch a skunk, especially if it’s dead)

Come home one night , go on the back porch , remind you its nighttime, good thing I have awesome hearing and great eyesight. Anyways I hear tussling in the leaves I stop and wait, I know something's there but I think its nothing . I'm about to walk on the porch then I see the skunks whitetail turn around , instantly I jetted back around the corner to the front of the house. Went across the street in my car to wait for it to pop put n leave. Suddenly 10 mins later I see the skunk up the street in the next garbage. So I knew the coast was clear! Phew what a close one!!!!

I live on a ranch and skunks come even with predator guard red led lights or motion lights, water power did not stop them from killing my animals and sucking out their blood, the best system I've found is. 22 cal. bullet to the side of the body= No spray them 90% of the time, or using a Ztrap with scrambled eggs for bait. Some people use mothballs to keep them out. But the are so persistent in killing chickens, you need to step up your game and dispatch them to avoid further population of them. Works for about 1 year then more make it into your area.

You can get rid of skunks with beating up a raw egg and mix in six aspirins. They will eat this mixture and go off somewhere and die. Better way than shooting them! I was having skunks visit my back door to my porch every night. They were smelling where I set my cat food dishes out by the door. (I bring them inside every night, water dish too). After the skunks came two nights and ate the raw eggs they haven’t been back! I have Arlo security lights and camera up so I see every thing that moves out back by the door.

Do you have a deck facing your backyard? If so, run the garden hose on to the deck with the sprayer attached and leave it there. Next time you see a skunk on the lawn spray him while you are standing on the deck. He will not spray you, he will try to escape. Watch where he goes and later close it up. Close them all up. None of those home remedies or gadgets works. The only way to exclude a skunk from your yard is a physical barrier. Be wary of a skunk that is active in broad daylight. It might be ill.

Skunks have an extremely powerful weapon. An outside of a few highly paid daredevils, you are usually on your own when "moving" skunks. And entire skunk families are even tougher still. The adults are disciplined with the spray, but the little puppies have no discipline and spray it as soon as they produce it. Irrespective of where they are.

Lights do not work. I have deployed motion-activated lights and a camera that works in the dark. I have videos of the light flashing on into the skunk's face. It blinks and then carries on with it's business. Motion detector water sprays do not work with raccoons or skunks after the first time they see it. An electric fence, the kind a farmer uses will not stop raccoons. I have a video of a raccoon climbing over the fence from the neighbour's yard, touching the electric wire, getting shocked, thinking about it and then climbing over anyway.

Buck Shot I live in a suburb within the city limits of Nashville, TN and those bastards have taken over our neighborhood! They live in the drainage pipes that are under our driveways. One of my dog’s has gotten sprayed twice within 9 months and animal control literally gives zero fucks and these little bastards are ballsy as Hell...total nightmare situation. I cannot legally fire an actual firearm at the because I live in the city with close neighbors, so that’s out. I’m thinking about getting a very high powered air rifle with Co2 and hollow points to try to kill them. In the meantime I’m going to make life on my property suck as much ass as possible for them. I’m buying as many Black Cat fire crackers as possible tomorrow and will be shoving the lit package in their den via 7’ long tree branch every damn day while they’re asleep. I hope like hell it works, and pray that no one (dogs or humans) gets sprayed while doing so. It’s the worst! I hate those damn rotten fuckers! Good luck!

We have skunk smell often - twice this week alone. Even had someone come a few years back to try to trap them, but he only got a squirrel and a cat and charged us a high fee. We think they are living under our porch this year. Earlier in March, I saw two of them rolling around in my front sidewalk. It was at night, but when I turned the front porch light on, there they were. The smell permeated things in my house and lasted for a couple weeks. What can I put it spray under the porch to deter them?

Take some old clothes that have been worn and not washed, cover them in household ammonia and through them under the porch. Skunks hate ammonia. If you feed your cat or any other animal outside, they are staying close for the food. The also eat mice and cockroaches so if you have a low bug/ pest problem the skunk is why - he eats those things. They can be beneficial for ridding your yard of other pests, as long as they don't take up residence. Give it a try. It worked for us. We had them in the storm drain outside and they left and haven't been back.

This guy is definitely not an expert. Please don't believe it just because there is a video on the internet. Skunks don't really care about light. That's a scientific fact. Milky Spore is not a nematode it's a bacterium. It does work to minimize grubs in your lawn so he's right about that and I endorse that method. The sprinkler may work for a little while but the skunk will soon become accustomed to it. They really don't mind water. They live outside and love to be out in the rain. It brings their food sources closer to the surface.

I will agree that for the most part skunks prefer the dark and shy away from a strong lamp. However, I have observed what I think is a varied behavior dependent upon the food and water situation in the area, as well as the lay of your land, like out here in the hills they roam more freely, as long as the coyotes aren't around. During the last 3 years of harsh drought here in California, some of the large skunks have been out in the daytime searching for sustenance until it got too hot, not because it was too bright. We have a barn full of chickens, and once a big male gets their scent and decides it's dinner, they will be out digging at anytime of day excepting the noonday sun. I'll keep my camera ready just in case so we all can have a good laugh. Aloha...the Farmer

You could just leave the lights on everywhere - a small radio playing metal - and a timer that turns on an old noisy electric motor every 10 minutes - and the sprinkler on. I'm sure those sprayers are fun for the kids. I just threw four of them in the trash after having been sprayed a hundred times. They're not very useful in a space you want to inhabit yourself.

That's one way, but I know a better way, and I'm speaking from experience. Skunks, possums, and raccoons are nocturnal animals. That means they board with you during the day and go out to forage during the night. You don't need poison, guns, traps, sonic or chemical repellers, etc, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS KEEP THEM FROM RETURNING. Now, knowing when they leave and when they return is not so simple, but if you use a motion detector, it is,. With the motion detector, after the alarm tells you that they're leaving, all you have to do is close the opening through which they entered. That's all.

I have 5 skunks living under our deck, thankfully we have secured all the openings that lead under our house. We live on a farm and motion lights don’t work or the water. They are so use to us that they will play while we’re out in the yard, day or nigh. We are hoping that they will grow up soon and leave. We don’t have any garbage or animal food around but have five pecan trees that produced a lot of nuts that keep them feed. We are desperate and open for any ideas.

I've had success with ammonia bombs. Soak an old rag tied up into a ball with ammonia and while they're out, push it into their den with a stick. I put a new one in every night till the den was full. Skunk is gone. Be sure to fill the den with gravel or something the skunk can't dig out if she tries to return.

I have five precious stray kitties I feed every day. So I bring in all their dishes and water bowl every night. But apparently they smell where the food dishes have been setting. I even bought one of those Critter things that goes off when they get near it. Well that was a waste of money. I read somewhere on line you can get rid of them with raw eggs and 6 aspirins mixed in. They eat it and go off and die where where. Well it worked! I set a bowl out two nights in a row and they haven’t been back! I have Arlo security lights and cameras so I see every thing around my door. They may not be a humane way to get rid of them but they aren’t coming back. I’ll probably get a lot of criticism over using this method, but I’m a 82 year old widow and not able to get out and set traps and get rid of them. I’m just concerned over my kitties. I had two raccoons that came and they haven’t been back.

Cedar mulch, we used the natural color kind without any dyes. The cedar oil and scent repels bugs... So the skunk goes away from the grubs and bugs going away from the smell OR the smell of cedar brothers the skunk itself... Or both I don't know but cedar mulch worked for us after 2 years of lawn damage. So cheap KZreadrs can't make money selling products to us so they don't make videos about it... $2.99 a bag

They are not afraid of me snd don’t even scram despite I’m sitting right by sliding glass door with bright automatic lights on bright as hell. They are not scramming from the sprinklers either. In fact it’s still light out when they start forging gor food by nite they are gone. That 22 sounds like the best chance or you can easily catch in cages but I get tired of paying $275-$400 each to take away.
